Dougie should go for the vacant Barnet job, where he's also adored, and cut his managerial teeth.

Would want the new man to bring in his own staff.

Part of me agrees with you. However, if it's Eddie Howe, his right-hand man at Bournemouth is Jason Tindall - not bright and not particularly respected by Bournemouth fans despite their recent success!

Still, I guess if it works for Eddie...

just literally spoken to charlie holness and he assured me it's dougie, he said he wasn't sure when it would go public but it's a cert!

Who is Charlie Holness? Bob's dad?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Precisely. Wouldn't want anyone being forced on a new manager, something that was forced on Burley.

Would want Howe (should he get it) to be as comfortable as he needs to be here, and that would include bringing in his own staff.

That's not to say Dougie couldn't be a coach, I just think that if he wants to crack management, he's better off starting lower down the ladder and learning his trade. What better place than Barnet? Perfect fit.

I think this would be a fantastic appointment. He's a proven motivator and should bring good knowledge of lower league bargains. Has good links to Harry Redknapp as well, meaning the chance of loaning someone like Woodgate maybe become more of a reality (maybe slightly optimistic).

...that would NEVER happen - he's always injured!

Admittedly, the chances are somewhat remote. Redknapp wants to get him out on loan since his recovery from injury and has mentioned shipping him out to a Championship team.

I'd be more than happy with that - Barnet are welcome to groom him for us if there's not a place for him here.

I'm worried now - I think I've convinced myself it's going to be Howe and anything else will be a disappointment.

Ah. So a Palace youth defender is going to have the inside track on who the new manager is going to be.....

I tried to open a SkyBet account yesterday to put £20 on Eddie Howe being the next manager at 33-1 and it didn't work. This could be reeeeeealllly bittersweet.

Well, there really is no concrete reason to believe that it's true, judging by some of the ill-informed, speculative bollocks posing as 'inside information' that's been posted here today.

I'd be delighted if he was appointed, though.
