There are a few stand out fans we have noticed down the years, the great 'Side-o' selling programs, a guy in the Main stand who used to do the longest and loudest shout of eagles once every home game, other clubs have theirs like that annoying old bag from Man City with the school bell, and I'm not talking about the 'faces' in the Holmesdale or Arthur Wait crews. My personal fav is an elderly chap on the Holmesdale terrace who used to wear a black cossack hat with a teenage lad with him who was sadly several sandwiches short of a picnic. Most fans urge on their team with gutteral incoherent noises or strong language, but this old guy would bellow out phrases straight from Bob Wilson or Nick Owen, his poor partner would then shout out "Palace , Eagles" in a loud 'my left foot' voice. Examples: v Barnsley c.1984 "Come on Palace compete in midfield" (followed by random shouting from partner); 3-0 up at home to Oldham same season, Palace player passes back to keeper "Come on Palace, don't give them psychological advantage" (his friend starts shouting again). The humour may get lost in translation, but it wud be nice to hear tales of Palace nutters - you don't get this at Old Trafford, mind you you don't get it at Selhurst these days either.

There's a big group of eccentric palace fans that sit at the front of the holmesdale near the Arthur waite stand. Dont know if you've seen them but they always make me laugh with their flag waving and jumping up and down! Look quite silly but you cant fault them for entertainment value!

In the 80's standing in the Sainsbury's end, there was this middle aged guy me and my mates named 'The dear oh dear man'.

Everytime Palace hit a wayward ball or missed a sitter - which was quite often in the mid 80's - he would shake his head and exclaim: 'Dear oh dear oh dear'.

Wurzel, for those who remember him was a home and away boy from the 80's, a little bit dolly dimple he would latch on to you like a limpet for a bit of friendship. There are I think some pictures of him on the BBS going away with the 'earlybirds'.

Alan, a mainstay of junior and non-league football in the Beckenham / Penge area (places like Bromley Town etc..)I remember seeing him at lots of games I played in watching (he knew a lot of the people from the old Kelvin set up) he was about 5ft nothing and had an old transistor radio welded to his ear 24/7 , I would imagine he's probably dead or very very old by now.

There was also a guy, before my time who used to walk around the ground and berate the linesman and ref constantly - My dad remember him vaguely from the 60's

Yup, and I remember him running on to the pitch before the Fulham game at the end of 1969 with a bottle of champagne and giving John Sewell a swig just before he kicked off. Can't imagine that being allowed now.

There was also a crowd from the then Heath Clark school that used to stand on the Holmesdale, led by Denny Warren, who I think's still around.

There used to be an old guy who stood in the Enclosure at the front of the Main Stand back in the 60s. Me and my mate nicknamed him chimney owing to his chain smoking throughout the match - okay not very original.

However, more notable was his demeanour which entailed him having both hands in his pockets and squirming throughout the 90 minutes as if he need a pi*s, or was pulling himself off. He gave us much amusement on the occassions Palace were failing to do so on the pitch.

That's a blast from the past - Palace Action group or summat wasn't he the leader of? Power struggling with Ron Noades in '81. He was on Tv news and everything.
Is he still alive?
