Yes Clyne is out of contract but is under 24. So instead of going to a tribunal clubs can make offers for the Player.

But thats the thing they can't !

If Clyne doesn't want to go to West Ham there isn't a single thing Palace can do about it regardless of the fact we will get a couple of million in compensation !

Zaha won't go to West Ham.

He's not tall enough.

Thats the thing they can.
Any player under 23 that leaves a club for another, the new club has to pay a "Training & Progression Compensation fee" so long as the parent club has offered the player a new contract at least 6 months before the end of his contract.

And if Clyne doesn't want to sign for West Ham Palace can strike up whatever deal they like with West Ham it won't mean Clyne will sign for West Ham !

I get that we will get a fee from Clyne signing for another club but the point I am making is it will the club of Clyne's choice not the club that gives us the best deal !

isn't that the same with any exchange deal, ultimately if the player doesn't want to go there they wont, all that happens is the terms of the deal get amended ie cash instead of player.

The idea is that the club which Clyne accepts the offer from has 2 options, the first is they agree an out of court settlement with Palace directly and can negotiate a figure, the second is Palace reject that settlement or the club refuse to enter negotiations with Palace and it goes to a tribunal which is set and non negotiable.

The idea is becuase it is unknown what fee would be set in a tribunal, the clubs will hopefully negotiate with Palace and we can get a fee we find more agreeable.

Bang on!! Clyne will go when he's ready and to what team he wants.. and then it will be up to Palace to agree a deal with the said club.

There can be only one!!

With west ham going in for Holt now surely Baldock must want to be playing somewhere regularly next season.

Because of the number of games Clyne has played, and various other factors any fee set by a tribunial will be much higher than Palace received for Bostock, as any tribunial will look at all aspects including Clyne loyalty to the club in the past.

With that in mind and the protracted time it takes for a tribunial too make a decision DF feels it's in both clubs interest to settle amicably.
