Good to see that Clint Hill has been offered a new contract, but Keiron Dyer!!! Why? He only played part of a game all last season.

I have been thinking this since his Newcastle days. Everyone takes a punt on him despite his shocking injury record. In a way, I'm actually happy for the guy as it SEEMS to only be injury preventing him being a sucessful footballer. I may be completely wrong and you might now point out 15 stories where he has raped/murdered/stolen from Polish minimum-wage cleaners but if he is really just a nice, normal guy with cursed brittle bones then good on him for somehow making a living in football. All I know is, the times he has stayed fit for longer than a week, he is...ok. He can do a short pass with the most average of 'em, is no where near Scholes in long passing and nowhere near Lampard in distance shooting and bursting into the box late. Yet the guy is almost always considered worth a gamble. Almost as if every manager is convinced he will be a world beater if he can stay fit for 6 months of the year but I don't see it personally. You can understand why Liverpool persevere with Gerrard despite him always being injured and a shell of his former self and the same goes for Essien at Chelsea. On their day they can destroy a top team like Barca even if they are injured for every other match that season but Dyer. Seriously?

I've probably just been unlucky and watched the wrong matches. From the ones I've seen, Dyer is average whereas whenever I've seen Hargreaves, he looks like one of the best defensive mids in the country. Light years ahead of Carrick and on par with Parker but like you say, he is always injured. There's no one truly brilliant that I would compare Dyer to.

The most probable reason for the extra year is, that clubs who have a a player with a long term injury have a legal as well as a moral obligation to look after that player, much the same as Palace with Lee Hills last summer.

The best move they could make is to show Barton the door.
