In all fairness, Dannyh raises an important point, Celtic could do with a similar fate. Someone posted a link on here a few months ago and Celtic have been paying out much more than Rangers in wages, it can only be a matter of time before their bubble bursts. There was also an article in the press giving the view that it was Celtic that had the most to loose rather than other SPL clubs as the writer thought that Rangers fans could start watching other clubs, although they would obviously never watch Celtic. Interesting that Celtic FC (if not their fans) have been rather quiet about everything. A SPL without either of them would be very refreshing.

Celtic fans will miss the Old Firm deby but that's it! Otherwise, its feckin hilarious.

Sorry, that's what I meant, whilst their fans may be (understandably) having a field day, Celtic FC have not said much. I suspect that with the wages they are paying out, they know that it could be them.

I don't really think that Rangers problems were just the wages, which were obviously high, but the the previous two owners. Something like 30m went 'missing' and they were about to be reamed by HMRC for anywhere between 50m and 75m for what amounts to a borderline tax fraud involving payments to players. Whyte bought the club for a quid, on the basis of clearing debts, and seems to have made off with about 20 odd million in terms of season ticket sales that was supposed to be covering debts etc.

Jelly and ice cream time for Celtic then? If life has taught us anything about Football clubs and financial management, its that once one goes due to bad management and financial insanity (or criminality) the club laughing the hardest is usually next (yes Pompey I am looking at you).

They're in Division Three, which is the correct outcome, seeing as they're essentially forming a new club. This will be a real wake up for Scottish fooball, and really should be for English football as well. None of our clubs are entirely beyond this.

All the Celtic fans going crazy now.. But will they actually still get the same buzz out of winning the league next season? Not going to be an achievment is it.

The right decision has been made, 25 from 30 votes speaks volumes. Think it'll be quite refreshing for Scottish football to be honest. Sky/ESPN will also bid so low that I reckon it has a chance of getting back on terrestrial TV.

To answer my own question, until 2016-2017, by which time Rangers newco will presumably be back in the SPL OK, so the source is wiki!
