I thought it was a FIFA thing and tied into the respect campaign. I think that the clubs should agree to abide by where FIFA are going on this and remove player choice - fail to shake hands = fine and get sent to the naughty corner.

I’d love to see the naughty chair being brought in to football, hopefully positioned in front of the opposition fans.

If I (or my brother) had been racially abused by someone who then went on to lie about it in court, I wouldn't shake their hand, simple as. Obviously there's the question of whether Terry did actually dish out racist abuse, but when Anton Ferdinand has said he thinks he's lying on record, I think it would be even stranger to actually shake his hand. Obviously getting other people to not shake Terry's hand and refusing to shake Ashley Cole's hand seems to be making a bit of a fetish out of it, but it's a free world, isn't it? I'd be far more concerned if players considered one another to be lying racists, but were still willing to shake one another's hand in the name of "sportsmanship".

"Later still after the match, Mr Ferdinand's then-girlfriend showed him a clip of the exchange with Mr Terry, which was posted on YouTube. It was then that he believed Mr Terry had used a racist term." So he didn't hear it during the game by the looks of things but now suddenly Ferdinand, a guy who is basically illiterate and thick as a plank can read lips. It just seems like he got caught up in all the speculation and went along with it, having not heard any of the stuff himself. Sportsmanship matters, especially for football which has such a poor reputation and is constantly compared to rugby and not in a positive way. Fifa are trying to change the image of the sport and the Ferdinand's aren't helping by making a saga out of an event that has already been settled in a court of law. There are people that I dislike and who I have reason to hate but if they offer to shake my hand i'm not going to snub them. It just inflames the situation further and gets you nowhere.
