Saturday was my first time for a long while in the sainsburys famiy end with friends and young children. We had to purchase tickets to the side/block near the away fans due to season ticket holders who obviously sit more central. A few away fans were giving it the large with v signs, foul language, verbal abuse etc etc ... basically looking for confrontation. I've got no major problem with this myself as an adult but FFS move them away from our kids! and back near the HF so they can return the favour of insults. I understand that there is a policing cost issue over this so perhaps could we not look at moving the away fans to the Sainsburys end and opening up another couple of blocks for families in the AW but nearer the Holmesdale end? Mr Parish & Co ....Thoughts??

I was in the Holmesdale and even i could see some of the away fans giving it large to the family stand. To be fair it is unlikely that the away fans will know (and probably wont care) that it is the family stand. However having said that in my opinion it is a moronic decision to place the away support directly next to the family stand/section at any ground. So yes it should be moved.

100% agree with this post! Had exactly the same a while ago, away fans making w***er signs towards the 'FAMILY' stand, absolutley disgusting especially with kids in this stand. I'm suprised this hasnt been bought up more often!

Whole point in a family day is to encourage new fans and youngsters to experiance a day out at the Palace. They are not going to return if they are abused by away fans. If the away fans have to stay where they are why not get the Police who all congregate at the Top of the stairs doing nothing all game to show a presence between the stands. Stewards are not paid enough to deal with morons that want to abuse famalies and more or less ignore whats going on unless its infront of the HF then its a different story.

Sod having the away fans back next to the Holmesdale! Its been great concentrating on supporting the lads on the pitch with 100% Palace chants rather than playing up to the stereotypical fat northerner asking him if hes seen his cock, taking the piss out of the away fans being unemployed, and all the other boring banter that goes with it. Agreed it must be annoying for families being next to the away fans. The chairman are making a massive saving by doing this though.

I fully agree with this, the away fans are far to near the family stand, and was a silly idea to put them there in the 1st place, Sure the club save money on policing but why where the Burnley fans dotted all over the two blocks? They could have all been further away in one block, closer to middle?

I understand the OP however overall the moving of the away fans to the other end of the AW stand has worked really well imo, especially in reducing the 'heat' between rival fans and preventing some of the unpleasant scenes in the AW stand the season before last. I have heard bad language from our own fans sitting in the family stand in the past, on a couple of occasions infact. The away fans can't be given the Sainsburys end, for two reasons; 1) the capacity does need meet the league's requirement for 10% of the stadium capacity and 2)the exec boxes are above. I realise it's difficult to block out some of the chanting, however I would just ignore them and concentrate on the game. Or else if it was that bad, alert the senior security stewards to take action. But moving the fans based on one incident is a bit OTT Edited by PositivelyPalace (08 Oct 2012 12.29pm)

I simply won't be going with my little 'un until they've moved them back to where they belong.

You can get seats in block J of the main stand, these tickets are priced the same as those in the Sainsbury's and all come under the one umbrella of 'family stand'.

Not idea but would at least mean you could take your kid(s).
Stand there like parked cars if you want to. We can't force you to enjoy this music |

I agree, but you have to remember abusive language at football grounds will always happen and never go away so moving the away fans away from family area won't stop the bad language

I'm with you on that Dan, I'm w block but I find it refreshing seeing our support get behind the team and not worry about away fans, thats what kills an atmosphere but we have had a unique experience during recent seasons which is why we are outsigning the away support because they cant wind us up to stop the signing. Of course the down side is away support abusing our family stand fans, I read somewhere that this season the away section nearest the family stand would be an away fans family section to reduce this problem. can anyone confirm this and if its had a positive affect?
we're the Arthur, we're the Arthur, we're the Arthur over here! Positive! Proud & Palace - W block, AW |
