The state's rules of engagement can vary from one conflict to the next. Currently, Israel operates an ignoble one. That's what The Hague War Crimes Tribunal was set up for. To try and reign in Governments/politicians tendencies to go way over the top. To try to make....dare I say it Stirling?......disproportionate military action which involved wanton murder a bit more difficult to execute.

Obviously, you get bigoted nutters who couldn't give a sh1t like Karadzic, Assad and Netanyahu but it probably stops one or two others joining that criminal set for fear of recrimination.

War is not proportionate as Stirling points out but some orders that are given and/or actions taken can be reasonably classed as excessive and beyond that criminal.

In the case of warcrimes being committed during this latest round of carnage I wouldn't really know about much of it.......The charge is difficult to prove.

It's normal fare for anything that moves to be shot on a front line......Still, of all I've seen I'd say those kids playing football on a beach has to count as a crime....Unless it was a stray and even then the IDF has to compensate those families....trite I know but what to do if it was accidental.

We all know that the IDF contains nutters within it...Plus the general attitude towards Gaza in Israel isn't exactly warm. Eight years of Hamas has basically destroyed the peace movement and even the official left support the Gaza action.

The mood for looking, in a balanced and critical way, at the actions of some nutter IDF soldiers isn't exactly urgent in Israel.

As for outside bodies, unless the states supports them then they are talking shops with no real relevance.

People need to see the wider picture when they ask why the west turns away from this never ending war....If Israel was overthrown....apart from that damaging the US's trade and to some extent the EU (though I don't know how much) what would replace it would be far worse....The one true western style democracy in that region would be gone.

Anti US, anti western....No trade and worse human rights.

You speak of an intervention to 'overthrow' Israel. Not sure if that would be the case.

I typed, 'If Israel was overthrown'. That covers any situation where the state ceased to be.....Which of course is the stated aim of your 'confused and misunderstood' Hamas.

I mainly want the conflict to be over so this thread can drop off the first page.

What to be replaced by about five 'next manager' threads?

Whilst there seems to be some consensus gathering momentum about the legality (or not) of Hamas and Israeli actions,....it just seems to me to be morally wrong to bomb the shlt out of civilians, when ground troops should have been far more effective in removing the threat from Hamas, with the likely outcome of far less civilian deaths, homes, power stations, UN sanctuaries and hospitals not being bombed to fvck.
But we all have different moral compasses over what is acceptable.

These aggressive actions perhaps are endorsed by the Israeli government and the Hamas leadership, because it preserves their relative positions in power.

Now can we please let the thread about a guy dying with a vibrator up his @rse take its rightful place at the top of the topics

Indefinite ceasefire agreed after talks brokered by Egypt. Palestinian borders to reopen allowing trade to flow which is what Hamas were arguing for. Still things to iron out- see article for details.
I suspect both sides will claim they 'won'. Let's hope the ceasefire holds.

we all hope the cease-fire holds. Let's hope those twonks don't fire any more shlt missiles, because we all know who the victims will be.
, when Israel responds

Let's hope the negotiations progress more fruitfully than the HOL mass-debate

All that happened is that Hamas enabled Likud to destroy the border areas of Gaza.

Basically things are going back to how they were before.

A complete waste of time and life.
