Not sure if anyone at any stage on this thread said that they are massive fans of Hamas. However, the likes of you Matt and you Stirling have backed Israel to the hilt despite the fact that they are not defending themselves they are mass murdering hundreds of people.

It'll be your turn next to be accused of backing Hamas!

Cheap shot. Running short of vitriolic barbs to throw out?

So, do you agree with the Palestinian unilateral breaking of the truce?

The truce ended when negotiations did. Neither side gave way enough to satiate the other sides demands.

I don't agree with Hamas firing rockets, apart from being as useful as passing in the wind, it only leads to reprisals However, that is their chief negotiation tool whilst Israel refuse sovreigncy and open borders.

I also think that Hamaseseses refusal to stop firing rockets shows how desperate things had become for Palestinians in Gaza. Don't forget, Israel have a say in pretty everything or anybody crossing the border. I've read some say that Israel have been slowly starving Gaza by controlling the calorific intake. A bit disbelievable if you ask me, but probably has some truth in it.

Don't exaggerate for dramatic effect. Hardly any rockets got through due to Iron Dome. The ones that did generally landed harmlessly no where near built up areas and those that did caused very little damage.

I've seen bigger pot holes in New Addington than the damage some of the primitive Hamas rockets caused. How many people were actually killed by the fireworks masquerading as rockets that Hamas launches?

Meanwhile Israel drops ten times more explosive than was dropped on Hiroshima on Gaza but that seems to be OK for you as it was aimed at Hamas!

Oh.....So the intent to kill.....The intent to kill matters less if you aren't successful in killing people.....Oh I see....Yeah, great point that.

Hamas were killing hundreds of Israelis in suicide attacks back before the wall was up.....Which you no doubt would prefer not to be there.

Just because Hamas are rendered rather pathetic does not mean that their attacks aren't deserving of a strong response.

Why didn't Thatcher emulate Israel with regard to Northern Ireland. That would've helped, no ?

It's been covered in the thread if you want to go through it.

You obviously haven't fully read the thread.....If you had you would have read me and Matt have criticised Israel in our different ways.

I've stated many times the problems I've had with Israel's actions....If you have fully read the thread you have just completely ignored this.

It's frankly a bit of a joke to suggest that the IDF haven't been criticised. I can point to sections of this thread where attacks against Hamas have been defended and their charter defended and portrayed as less extreme than it obviously is.

You have only referred to one bullet point in the Hamas charter. Why aren't you discussing rather than dismissing out of hand.

Have you read the Hamas Charter? It reads like a modern day Mein Kampf. If he anti Jew articles in it been written by the BNP or KKK, you would no doubt be up in arms. However, it appears you accept a document calling for the genocide of the Worlds Jewry in this instance because it fits with your political ends.

No I haven't backed 'Israel to the hilt'. I have questioned Hamas and Hamas' tactics. The fact that you are prepared to overlook this and Hamas' treatment of its own people that is your business but I would urge you look into it and make up your own mind rather than simply swallowing he left agenda of Israel bad, Palestine good. It isn't as simple as that.

The Israeli response has been excessive at times but, whilst not justifying it, is a product of the circumstances they find themselves in, surrounded by largely hostile neighbours and a warring opponent whose charter states that its goals are the destruction of its country and her deaths of as many Jews as possible on the way to achieving that goal.

If you were living in Beersheba and rockets were continually raining down around you, plus Palestinians threatened to kidnap you and your family through a network of tunnels, you would demand your government took action.

So Palestinian acts of aggression should just be ignored as 'harmless' by Israel? Hamas should be left to do this because they are the poor, oppressed underdog?

Yet again, you are using misinformed emotive guff to highlight your skewed views and accusing others of 'exaggeration'.

The only "misinformed emotive guff to highlight your skewed views" is coming from you! The phrase you use above "Palestinians threatened to kidnap you and your family through a network of tunnels" has been used by the Israelis to justify the mass bombing of Gaza. However not one person has been kidnapped through a tunnel! [Link] Where is your evidence?

The Israelis claimed during the ground attack that a soldier had been taken, which Hamas denied, and that turned out to be a lie as he had been killed in battle.

If you want to have a reasonable debate about the Israeli / Palestinian issue at least try and use facts rather than "misinformed emotive guff".

Look up 'threatened' in the dictionary and then come back.

The stuff you have written above is a diversion from the issue of the evening. Why is Hamas justified in unilaterally ending the truce, stopping the agreement of a further truce and endangering its own people as it full well knows that Israel will strike back hard following rocket attacks?

You have failed to answer this. I can't help but think your politics on this boil down to anti Israel prejudice.

You have only referred to one bullet point in the Hamas charter. Why aren't you discussing rather than dismissing out of hand.

I've referred to arguably the most extreme part in a charter that's pretty extreme to Jews in other sections as well.

It was you who put forward the crazy idea that Hamas were somewhat undecided about how they wanted to deal with the Jews.

You are quite happy to assign motivations to Israel and not counter the posts on here that do that but when it comes to Hamas it's. 'Oh....Maybe they just don't mean it'.

The whole thing appears pretty clear cut to me, I'm not sure what there is to discuss with this aspect.

I know you are for whatever leads to the least suffering Nick....It's an aspect I like about your posts even if I don't agree with your ideas on how to get there.

It is the same bleedin' conflict! The Israeli blockade started the day the pulled out their forces from Gaza in 2006! Since then there have been three battles but the conflict is the same.

Nothing gets in and out of Gaza unless it has been sanctioned by the Israelis apart from the tunnels built by Hamas, and businessmen, to bring in much needed material and medication as well as the stuff that Hamas have used to make their weapons.
