One of my Brighton fan colleagues (one of the real fans who is actually capable of talking some sense) has said a pretty similar thing. He thinks that if they don't go up within a couple of years then they will start to lose attendances.

I'm not 100% convinced as much as I hate to say it. They have a decent catchment area. Their nearest Championship club are us I believe. They have Crawley Town fairly near but not enough to draw away fans. Some other non-league clubs such as Lewes (who generally lose their weekend support to the Weed). I think this will keep their attendances fairly high even when the plastics ditch.

But I am still chuckling to myself about this. They are about to shell out another £2m as well. If the guy they bring in doesn't get them into the Premier League that'll be another load of money spunked up the wall to add to their woes.

Would a ground share with Gillingham save them a few quid?

Meanwhile Barber says that Albion chairman Tony Bloom, who largely bankrolled Albion's move to the Amex Stadium and has backed Seagulls boss Gus Poyet in the transfer market, will only be able to back the club to a certain extent.

Tony Bloom has seen the club win the League One title and move into the Amex Stadium since becoming chairman in 2009.

"Under the current system the chairman effectively is allowed to cover those losses from his own pocket," Barber continued.

"That won't be allowed under Financial Fair Play.
"Tony has been incredibly generous and has done a fantastic job in moving the club on to another level.
"Going forward, even if he wanted to support the club in terms of losses, he won't be allowed to.
"It's even more reason for us to make sure we run our business as effectively as we can."

It's what we said all along and the weed denied it. The clock is ticking and their financial model won't last much longer.

I wouldn't mind betting Poyet is on a fair old whack especially as they wanted £2m compensation from Blackburn for not seeing out the last 2 years of his contract. If they don't go up and have to start tightening the purse strings I'm not particularly convinced that Poyet would accept a pay cut or a reduction in the money he has to play with in the transfer market. I could see him getting fed up with his club if they don't go up within the next couple of seasons.

I love it. You go on there board and they really do believe that they have a never ending money pot to dip into. Fair play to Bloom. He has funded the club to the tune of millions and millions, but this can be dangerous as Simon Jordan well knows. Bloom has loaned them 80 million interest free until 2023 or something like that. It may be 10 years away but it still needs to be paid back. And that is a hell of an amount to pay back.

The bleat on at us about living beyond our means in the past which we did and came unstuck. Gotta sneaky feeling that all is not well and although there is no immediate danger maybe there board can sense that Premiership football is an absolute must if they are to continue operating as they are currently. Thats easier said than done. This league is brutal and the toughest to get out of, purely because every season there are around 10-12 teams all capable of going up.

As has been mentioned if promotion doesn't come there way soon then the plastics will soon get fed up of the shiny new stadium and Championship football.

Maybe if they weren't so deluded they could see it for themselves. Have you seen North Stand Chat lately? Two threads in recent days about Beckham and Lampard............ LAUGH OUT LOUD!!!!!

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
