You've dumped some managers who probably didn't deserve it, as have we, and our recent record of managers is pretty poor (I'm one of the ones who has been begging for a bit of stability and a long-term manager for ages). However, I don't think counting the trophies is a good marker as to how good respective chairmen are, given the incredible disparity between resources available I'd accept your last point in terms of comparison and resources. With our resources we should be winning trophies and as such its fair measure of our success. I think we would all like stability at our clubs because it brings continuity and importantly it allows a manager time with the subsequent consequence of him trusting youth at the club. We have some fantastic young players at Chelsea but a 'short term' manager would not risk using them. Hopefully now that may change and Jose will stay for the long term. However, I do not feel a club should keep a poor manager. We have had a few and we would never have won the champons league with AVB. He may have cost us 15/20 million in payments to him- although I dont know the figures. However, winning the champions league generated 200 million for the club. Thats a good return. I think that's the point for alot of us... success in football isn't measured in money. It is measured in League positions and trophies. Chelsea have plenty of those recently, why would the average fan care about money generated? money is important at Palace only so far as we need some to stay afloat, other than that, why would we care how rich we are? We support Palace and you support Chelsea.... not sure what else there is to say on this thread. Are we comparing clubs or something? Or is everyone claiming that supporting one is more worthy than the other (in football? PLEASE! it's a sport.) Undoubtedly there are things that, as a Chelsea fan, you won't experience, but we will, and vice versa. I will say this for being Palace. We can always dream of cup finals, european football and the like, and when we don't get it, we aren't surprised or annoyed, and so long as we beat Brighton and Millwall regularly and get promoted now and then, we enjoy ourselves immensely. As a modern chelsea fan, having won everything, success is expected, and therefore you have much more reason for being pissed off than us when you don't get it. What if Chelsea do an arsenal and go a decade or so without winning anything? I'm sure there will be many pissed off fans who feel like they are entitled to some success. The issue of money generated was my response to someone suggesting that the alleged pay-off to AVB was poor monetary business. I wasnt measuring success in monetary terms.Although its fair to say that a Businesses success can be partly measured in this way. As you quite rightly state success is relative. Success for us is to continue to win trophies at the rate we have been. Success for Arsenal would be to win a trophy. If we went as many years as them not winning anything then our measure of success would change. I have never stated in any of this thread (although I wouldnt expect you to read it all - LOL) that supporting one team is more important then supporting another.
