You don't know the difference between the trade deficit and the budget deficit!!! You spout all this stuff and haven't got a clue what you are talking about. You didn't know the difference between deficit reduction and debt reduction and now this. May I suggest that you try understanding what you are banging on about before you post it here?

You don't know the difference between the trade deficit and the budget deficit!!! You spout all this stuff and haven't got a clue what you are talking about. You didn't know the difference between deficit reduction and debt reduction and now this. May I suggest that you try understanding what you are banging on about before you post it here?
I was mocking you for not knowing what the trade deficit is and what the budget deficit is. You really need to read about economics. Stop making ridiculous jibes about things I haven't said and focus on learning about what you are talking about.

Nick - you got it wrong the correct response would have been - yep hands up school boy error on my part. The reason the trade deficit is widening is we are growing more demand, good news. The article also mentions the strong pound. This makes exporting harder, but the strong pound means traders are confident in our economy hence buying sterling. Indeed - well done George.

The budget deficit is what the government introduced austerity to try to reduce. To put it simply, and better economic minds than I will be able to elaborate, the budget deficit is when the government spends more money than it raises through taxes and has to borrow to close the gap between income and spending. The trade deficit is when a country imports more goods or services than it exports. The latter is largely controlled by the manner in which companies operate, as companies consume the largest proportion of imported goods and services, whether they are British owned (for example Marks and Spencer) or foreign owned (for example BOC). The trade deficit has widened but you linking it to austerity is misguided. The trade deficit can widen during times of producing a budget surplus (this happened in the US during the Clinton administration).

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the difference between UK government spending and income was £10.8bn ($18.4bn, €13.5bn) in the month, up from £8.5bn in April and higher than analysts were expecting. As an aside, why are we still listening to advice from the same analysts that didn't see the financial woes of a few years ago coming?
