One thing that's bothered me with Syd's scenario, who dishes out these contracts? Does a player get one given to him by the FA at 18 years of age and he has to keep it 'til he retires, which nobody would be able to predict?

There was no skullduggery, a legitimate offer was made to Man U for the player, the offer of �80m was accepted.

And a lot of the time the fee is dependant on how long is left on the current contract.
