As already said 1968/69 as the wooden fencing in front of the crane was only put up once construction started on the new stand (as it was then!)before that it was concrete slat type wall all down that side. Am I sad or what?

Yes, I am with you on the year ! Not sad at all !
In those days, rattles and rosettes were in evidence followed by claret and blue walking sticks !

I would go with 68, the new floodlights are erected which was 62 and the work being carried out looks like the preparation for the Arthur Wait.

........................Then along came Johnny Byrne! and the rest, as they say, is history.....................

I reckon it's taken either at a reserve game or a bit after the Blackpool game on 28.12.68 was abandoned.

John Jackson in goal and it looks like Jack Taylor was the referee.

They never stood up in the only seated which was to the back of the old stand.Behaved themselves in those days.

Just came across this on a Russian football site - apparently it's Selhurst!

Anyone recognise the picture and have any idea when it was taken ?

Probably taken in mid Sixties. Yes that is the Whitehorse End before Sainsbury arrived and that green hill was a bugger in Winter when, after heavy rain, fans would slide down it on many occasions. Not so much H&S in those days but plenty of wet arses.

And you got told off by fellow fans if you shouted support or stood up. They love to moan in the Main Stand. Nothing has changed.

Definitely late sixties and possibly before a Football
Combination game.
Hard to imagine that the the ground managed to house an
attendance of 30000+ for a top of the table 4th Division game against Peterborough.
