On the other hand we might not be an attractive proposition and we don't pay big wages, compared to other clubs.

People are so quick to attack others and with actually no evidence to back it up.

Let's throw caution to the wind, what's the worst that could happen? I'm all for a third spell of admin...........

This would be a sensible post if the world was black and white and paying one or two key players bigger wages would be absolutely certain to end in administration. But, as we all know, that's not the case. Plenty of clubs -- Everton for one -- operate within a wage structure which, when it is sensible to do so, they adjust -- as they are about to do for Baines. The bottom line is that good owners DON'T impose limitations; they deliver success while at the same time mitigating risk. But we seem to think that zero risk, even if it means zero success, is a prudent operating model. And it's not.

Is this going to be mentioned for the next ten years whenever someone suggests that perhaps we ought to pay the going rate if we want to attract the right calibre of players for the league that we are in.

Pathetic comparison.

Quite right - plus Everton's current success has come at the end of around a decade of being cautious, not overspending and backing competent managers with enough to stay withing their means.

Closest comparisons for us at this point might be West Brom or Reading?

You could turn that argument on its head and say Everton have been in the Premier league for so long because they know when to make adjustments to their budgets, etc.

I take it you work at the club, closely with the owners and know exactly how they feel and operate.
I'm sure if they feel they can pay the wages they would, so I have to assume that they don't think it's worth the risk. Personally I will trust their judgement and if we go down, so be it. We bought and bought and bought in the last window and that was also wrong, apparently. Comparing us to a club that has never been relegated out of the top league is quite honestly laughable.
What actually is success for a club like Palace? Just being here could be considered success. We are Palace we've never been successful and in this modern day money laden football World, we never will, unless we get a billionaire in charge and lots of people don't want that either.

Yes.
We have a history of f***in' it up financially, so why not again?
No one has said we won't pay the going rate, it would appear that we cannot afford to pay the going rate. Seriously 35k a week for Sissoko, you having a laugh?

Hopefully Vincent Tann has a brother who fancies taking us over.

You could. But you'd still just be making it up, and you'd probably be wrong.

You start off with a sarcastic comment then fall into the same trap yourself. You're sure that "if they feel they can pay the wages they would". I take it you work at the club , closely with the owners and know exactly how they feel and operate

If you cast your mind back to pre-season most people were asking that we improve the team with a few quality players. No-one asked for as many as they signed and in fact most of us wondered what the hell they were doing and wondered if they knew themselves.

You claim to trust in their judgement. Did you say that when they employed George Burley and Ian Holloway too?

So now Everton have never been relegated from the top flight of football because they know how to adjust their budget. Pffffft. Nothing to do with them being in the top flight for 60 years, always having 40,000 crowds no matter what condition the economy is in. Always having a sound scouting system in place at schoolboy and professional level due to their history in the top flight.

There is every chance that your player budget and revenue will decide roughly where in the table you will finish, and Everton are not in with the bottom 8 or so. It's no different for most, unless you're West Ham or QPR and you try to do it too quickly with that greasy pole from 11th to 18th.

I don't think George Burley seemed a bad option at the time, but turned out to be a disappointment.

Since then Dougie was backed to stabilise us, which he did before jumping ship.

Ollie was backed to get us promoted, which he did before losing the plot and jumping ship.

Pulis has been backed to keep us up. He's doing a good job so far, but with a long way to go.

As for Moody, the talk was that he was brought in after the last window when it became clear that Parish couldn't handle transfers & recruitment himself. If he is dealing with a large portion of the work involved, then that is working. I think it'll be a while before we can make a fair judgement of how successful he is.

Why wouldn't I ? What have they done so wrong so far?

Burley was never given the time, so may of been a success if he'd stayed, then again he may of failed.
Holloway took us up and gave me bragging rights until the day I die over the weed, so I have no complaints over his appointment. No manager guarantees success.

In the summer we found out how unprepared for this division this club is after years of under investment and administration. We are the poorest team in the division and this is making it hard for us to match the packages other teams can offer.
The owners are learning as they go, it would seem, but it's really got f*** all to do with me, what they do and how they do it.
