Pick the bones out of this, boys.

“I think we need to bring in four or five players and I’m not talking about spending money on one of them that is extortionate,” said the boss.

“I’m talking about trying to bring players in who have a little bit of experience in the Premier League but also have something to prove.

“That is something very, very important for us because it’s a good group. It’s a smashing group of players here, they’ve worked their socks off for one another.

“We don’t want to bring in people here who are going to stroll around. We want people coming in here who will roll their sleeves up and have a good for us.

“You can go on and on and on about the players who might be available, who might be moving here or there.

“You haven’t got long now to wait to see who we bring in and what we bring in. Just be a little bit patient.”

And Pulis has insisted any new players Palace manage to bring in will be his choice, not from those above him at board level.

He said: “I’ve come to the football club and I like to pick my own players. If I have to pick players on a certain budget, I will do so.

“We have got irons in the fire. We’re just hoping that one or two things will drop for us. The important thing is that everybody understands and recognises the task ahead.

“We have done fantastically well over the last few months, but that’s just the start of it. We know our level and what we can and what we can’t do do.

“I accepted that when I came into the football club. We have to work really hard to get the best that we can get and then get it organised and up and running.”

So what does this/he say?

1. Be patient.

2. I pick the players, if it's within a budget, I work within it.

3. We have to allow for the usual January window shenanigans to allow the deals to happen.

4. He knew what he was joining up for and that a lot of work is needed to maximise ability/talent from budget. (Probably not sign the most obvious and convenient transfer that's presented/available)

I was absolutely delighted to read this just now and I feel vastly more relaxed and confident than I have done at any time this week as a result. As I have persistently alluded, I do not find CPFC2010s voice in any way reassuring on football matters, and I was unsure TP was happy and in control. Now that he has confirmed that he is, there is nothing to pick the bones from. To quote myself, Parish has got out of the way and the voice I wanted to hear has spoken. I'm fine now.

At last a professional manager who conducts himself with great dignity and carries respect. Unlike others before him I actually believe every word he says. Ever since R.Noades started selling our best players off I have never trusted anyone at the club to tell the full truth until Tony Pulis came along, I doth my baseball cap to him and hope we get some new f***ing players in soon.

I don't think Parish was ever stopping TP from speaking out before, more like everyone has been putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 (or just letting the daily rags do it for them).

Nuances. Parish was doing the talking about transfers. When Pulis did talk after matches, he was expressing frustration at our lack of progress ("I thought we'd have players in by now." ) Up to a point, you're right. We did add 2 and 2. But I don't necessarily think we arrived at totally the wrong answer. There may well have been clear-the-air talks between TP and SP over the last 24 hours which resulted in today's comments. He certainly wasn't talking this positively a few days ago. Anyway, who cares now? The great man spoken. Good enough for me.

I'm happy with this, after all the paper cr*p that preceded it.

TP has come from a club that:

a) mixed it with the mid-table spenders.

b) bought players without necessarily being able to sell them on.

c) probably didn't include relegation clauses.

He is learning a thing or 2 about business and not TV money only, and maybe 2010 are learning a thing or 2 too, but I don't think he was that surprised of about 6 players transferred, we didn't sign them, knowing our budget all along.

Come on now, admit that (as TP is no fool and knows how the game works, seeing as he's always handled deals), he knew getting a player to agree to less than the others before the last week of Jan was always going to be unlikely.

Last thing I will say on the matter (purely as a reflection) is that the "I thought we'd have players in by now" is often taken out of context. He went on to say that three parties (two clubs and the player) have to agree a deal and that that's football. His frustration seemed to me to be more with the transfer market in general rather than the board, and if you re-watch the press conference he seemed pretty positive in general. Anyway, onwards we go.

TP has said what everyone needed to hear and I do not believe he is just paying lip service either.
The fact that he is committed to the job in hand, still optimistic on signings, claims he want 4 or 5 players in (which indicates there is a realistic chance that 3 or 4 will actually be coming) and more importantly than anything else he has dropped a heavy hint that he is in control of the football side and not beholden to either IM or the owners when it comes to players he wants/needs/signs.
Excellent news.

Syd, please don't allow your degree and your perceived idea that you have some kind of superiority over people because you run your own business cloud the issue. Businesses are designed to make money. Profit. I may not have a degree but in this system of capitalism that is the primary concern of a business, to make money.

Simon Jordan, at one time in his life had a great deal of business acumen, as did Mark Goldberg. Football fcuked this up for them. Can't you get this into your head, or does your business acumen blind you from the realities cpfc 2010 face.

In one breath you reckon SJ had no business sense. In the other you want cpfc 2010 to behave exactly like a Goldberg/Jordan to deliver you with the signings you want, without considering the long term picture.

I trust cpfc 2010 and thank Christ you're not in charge. It's egos like yours that saw our club almost die not long back.

This and this alone anybody who says different doesn't have a business
