ground improvements are for the medium and long-term future and survival of the club - s park is one of the worst maintained grounds and that will cost cpfc also not just failure on the pitch- with reduced sponsorships etc in 2014 it needs to be a place kids in particular rate for its facilities and want to be associated with not just a place older supporters rate for its atmosphere and who remember dilapidated terraces and stands with nostalgia - it seems a lot of people want to say that football is a business and then not accept the obvious implications of that - that supporters will increasingly adopt consumerist values such as expecting decent facilities for their money

While revamping Selhurst would prove costly (no argument there), CPFC2010 have not even said conclusively, as yet, that doing this is the option to which they are 100% committed. It is the most likely course of action, yes, but until we know what the exact plan is, we cannot know what it will cost. 2. No football ground is a success or failure based on kids rating its facilities other being a decent place to watch football. How many football grounds are highly rated because they've got a hotel, bowling alley, or cinema in them? Successful football teams make successful football grounds. End of. That is not to say that a horrible ground is desirable...it's just to say that kids -- who have no disposable income anyway -- really don't matter much. 3. If people adopted consumerist values, they would stop supporting Palace altogether. Consumerism is where people turn away from community and their lives become dominated by money. Football depends on the opposite; a football club is part of the fabric of the community. If a football club panders only to consumerism, it will quickly lose its identity and, by definition, fail. Even those clubs that are dominated by money have community at their heart. Put politely, I'm not sure I -- or you -- know what you're talking about.

By the way, I do think developing a ground, wherever the board decide it should be, is a very important priority for the future of the club. Whether, in the short term, it's a question of either ground or transfer budget is something that should be debated (there has to be a balance between the two) but I don't think anyone in their right mind would dispute that we need to do both.

Only if we stay in EPL. This season, despite some cosmetic improvements our ground is a throwback to older stadia and therefore, with our fans making a racket, it can intimidate the opposition. So, for now, focus on getting the right additions into the squad and backing the lads to stay up this season. Then we can start to think about improving our ground e.g. make our own "Red and Blue Wall" like they have at Dortmund!
