I don't know why, but I always feel that most media outlets praise us begrudgingly, and can't wait to try and destabilise things.

I remember reading an article about newspaper's transfer reporting during a window a couple of years back.

The Mirror had the 2nd to lowest accuracy, if I remember it was around 20% (The Star was bottom I believe). The Guardian was the most accurate at around 35%

Why we bother to get all hot and sweaty over The Mirrors's reporting and SJ's book beats me. They are both a waste of space and we need to try and find somebody who can tell us the truth!.

You are going to get reporters that tend to favour one club over others or dismiss one over everyone else. Its usually down to the individual journalist because the chairman stopped all their half time sandwiches (remember that) or they happen to support West Ham.
I'll never forget our dramatic and heroic play off final win over West Ham and naively couldn't wait to get the papers the next day. Instead of giving us any credit at all the back pages were splashed with headlines of 'They were robbed' and 'Poll turns blind eye at spot kick' with photos of Shaun Derry tackling Don Hutchinson who is going down very easy in the box.
That was probably the defining moment when I realised, you know what? sometimes it doesn't matter what you do. If the don't like you, they don't like you. If the love the other team, they love the other team. There's nothing you can do about it except play well, win the game, ram it down their throat and force them to give you some credit.
Its even sweeter for me when the credit seems grudging. It means we were so good (or so much better than the other team) that they are forced to acknowledge it.
West Ham will be the most media supported team in the Championship next year!

I don't think that the Mirror is particularly anti- or pro-Palace, but if you look at their football transfer reporting policy, they report on every movement and speculate what the outcome could be, so if a scout is seen at another team's ground or they get a tip off from someone at a club, they'll write it up, fully aware that it might not come off because there are so many variables involved between that stage and a player signing for a club. You may not agree with that policy, but they don't simply make sh1t up.

And I don't care. It's only worth pissing on anyway.
