Totally agree. This was the line-up I proposed in the thread before the Stoke match when Jerome was suspended. Thierry Henry went from an average winger to a clincal front man. Why not see if Puncheon can do the same thing?

Agree Puncheon seems more likely to score...The easiest and most practical way to implement this would be for Jerome to swap roles with Puncheon for 10-15 m periods during a couple of games. Jerome may turn out to be a better wide player...he has already done well going to by line and crossing
Wingers often swap sides so striker and winger swapping could also be tried out.

More likely to score because he actually has a shot now and again. For all his hard work and endeavour Chamach just doesn't take enough shots.Jerome is not good enough full stop. Would play Bannon out wide and Puncheon and Chamach in the centre.

To hit the side note of this post, whatever it takes to get Bannan regular minutes! I still don't get Pulis' aversion to the man.
And Puncheon, whether anyone here likes hearing it or not, is our best scoring option at the moment every time.

There is a theory that he does not like any player unless he suffers neck pain talking to him. And let's not mention Joniesta.

Not sure I agree with this. What Chamakh does is, I think, a by-product of the role Pulis has given him -- quite recessed in a "hold-the-ball-up-and-lay-it-off" position rather than playing him as an in-the-box striker. I think if Chamakh played further up or in a different formation, he would score more goals. For instance, if we had someone else in the position Chamakh is presently playing I think Chamakh would be quite capable of playing Jerome's current role and would score more goals while doing it. I'm not saying he's a prolific, 20-goals-a-season man but I do think he has 12-15 in him, and he won't get that from the role he's been given now. Jerome wouldn't score 15 a season if we made him the penalty taker and we got 15 penalties.

Yea but Chamakh is showing to be very good in that position, I would hate to take him out of a role that he is doing very well. I would rather just sort out the striker issue by hopefully picking up a striker in the window or giving Gayle, Puncheon or even Guedioura a chance to play off him.

Problem with most of these ideas is that whilst Puncheon probably does have a better eye for goal than Jerome, he isn't physically capable of performing the role that Jerome does up front for the team.

Ideally we want Jerome to do what Jerome does, but with the chances falling to Chamakh or well anyone else really. Problem is, what Jerome does for the team is generally what creates those chances. He's a big target man, strong in the air etc. Gayle is about a foot too small, and built like a 8 year old girl by comparison. No way he is out musculing or jumping a six foot and change center back.

We'd be stretchering either one off by half time.

Anyone on the books who can hit a bull in the arse with a banjo can play up front as far as I am concerned!.

Bound to divide opinion but hear me out.

I absolutely love Chamakh, he wins a lot of headers, rarely loses the ball and is ridiculously unselfish, what we lack is someone who can do something with his little lay offs, neither Jerome nor Gayle seem to be that person.[Gayle too weak, Jerome shoots like a donkey, Wilbs can't finish either, please do not call his goal against Wigan "finishing"]

I can't see this happening in a month of Sundays but would love to see Puncheon in front of Chamakh, he has a thirst for scoring, perhaps to the point of annoyance, we've all seen him try and take that extra man just to make space for a shot and he has got a good strike on him, if he was in that advanced position i think he could hit the back of the net at least as an interim solution.

This would also allow Bannan a place back in the team who i believe is just about the only player we have who can put in a quality cross.

This is massive. After the Hull game and I can confirm the above post as possibly the most significant. Such an apologetic and self-demeaning post that in fact has proved to be 100% correct. Where did the germ of this idea originate? Who'd have thought it, a crazy idea of a winger made into a centre forward and a highly skilled forward used as a battering ram. But it worked. Expect more goals. Like the arrival of full back Malcom McDonald, this temporary measure will come permanent.

I can't believe there is such a large group of people here that don't appreciate Jerome's massive contributions to this team. It is because of his endless runs that the opposition defense becomes unsettled, clears the ball into touch, etc. He's not slow either; he chases and catches up on loose balls. He is a very useful player in my opinion and everytime I see him lined up with Chamakh, I am happy.

I agree that his finishing is sub-standard, but given how hard he works and effectively disrupts opposition play, I am willing to wait for the goals to come from somewhere else.

As for Gayle, I thought he could be a better sub than Wilbs on Tuesday, but it worked - so nothing to complain about.

Sorry for drifting away from the OP, but I really feel that some are not doing just to Jerome here.
