I think he's been a valued addition last window. His work rate is great. Pressures defenders. Has some pace. Does everything but score though. I've re-watched a few of the last matches and it seems he lack the killer instinct. He passes more often than shoots, when he does it's too late. Prime example, was in the Hull game. He got a nice pass from Chamy on the wing inside the box, chose to dummy instead of booting it clear on target.

I'd rather see Gayle have a start here or there to see if he can show his worth again.

Thoughts?

If we can sneak one goal in a match, then CJ gives us a much better chance of keeping a clean sheet at our end by holding the ball up, releasing pressure and making it difficult for teams to get their build up going from the back.

However, if we're one or two down and need to score a couple, Gayle is much more likely to do so, but we risk the ball coming straight back at us every time we clear it upfield.

agree 100% he is prob one of the best at chaseing down defenders and work rate he has a lot of pace to but it does not show due to his build at the moment i would start with him

Great response. Good point.

Exactly. The other big difference is his presence in our own penalty box when we are defending set- pieces.
Gayle and other smaller guys are probably no more than a liability in our own box.

One of the worst finishers I have seen but superb in other areas. On balance he is what we need at the moment particularly in home games when we are looking to press and panic the other team.

Although Jerome is not the best of finishers, I think he gets unfairly criticised on here. A lot of the chances we have been missing have fallen to other players, but Jerome takes all the flack. His work-rate is phenomenal and if we do bring in some more quality in other positions around him today (Ince, Ledley) then I'll think we'll be fine with Jerome/Chamakh/Murray as our main striking options.

I think we've been diddled with this loan as its not acually Cameron Jerome that we have, it's David Haye.

Looks a little like him and certainly plays like a boxer too.

Clinton is Clinton. I have known him for a long time, I know his mother... Simon Jordan

He's basically a faster, stronger Wilbraham. He'll be useful in games against the big teams where we need to hold the ball up after we've cleared it, but against teams around us I'd prefer someone more creative and better at finishing.

I don't mind him starting but what interests me more is, can he finish?
