Yes I agree, however it is difficult to get in quality strikers at reasonable prices particularly as clubs do not wish to unload their prized assets unless of course several millions are on the table !

I'm actually quite impressed that we didn't get a striker, much as I wanted and we needed one. The bottom line is that decent quality strikers simply weren't available but quality was available in other positions so that's what we went for. In the end, the striker choice was either the likes of Walters, Oedemwingie, Jones, Long or Jelavic...wildly overpriced and none of them score much... or the likes of Rhodes or McCormack who may or may not make the grade but would be very expensive and are totally unproven in the Premiership. In either case, we'd have spent a lot of money for very little guaranteed return.

My guess is that with a stronger centre at the back (Dann, Hennessey, and Ward back at right back) combined with a shored up midfield (Ledley) and a player who can score from the middle of the park (Ince), Pulis is gambling that we'll create more for Jerome and Chamakh to latch on to and in the absence of anyone who would significantly improve on Jerome (who is playing his role very well and is clearly a part of the team), why disrupt things and risk a lot of money for uncertainty? Smart move...our new midfield will generate more goals, even without better forwards.

I would conclude three things. First, I don't think we'll turn over a lot of players in the summer, but I think a goalscoring centre forward (and a left back) will be our big target and use of budget. Second, yesterday's activity was a big vote of confidence for Jerome, who must be feeling rather good about himself this morning. I'll bet he's motivated to pay Pulis back for his faith. And third, I think Guediora may be the loser yesterday. Ledley's arrival to some extent relegates him to a role as a squad player.

Lastly, I hope Bannan moves on. I love the guy, think he's done brilliantly, and would pick him myself but if Pulis doesn't fancy him, he's far too good to be sitting at the wrong end of the bench and unselfishly, I'd like to see him somewhere he can make an impact.

Pretty much agree with all of that, we do seem to pinning some of our hopes on GM coming back in good form which is a bit scary but as you say it looks like TP is hoping for more goals from around the rest of the team, which is really as it should be.

Unfortunately I share views re Bannan, he's very good player and needs to be playing games.

it takes a bigger man to admit he was wrong.

many on here wouldnt have wrote that post.

Yep... echo that, and those still having a pop at him are making themselves look foolish.

Pleased you said that Hoof. Nobody's perfect, some people learn.

Syd was big enough to admit he was wrong, why keep chastising him?

Interestingly enough with the exception of Norwich all our relegation rivals signed strikers !
Cardiff - Kenwyne Jones, Fulham - Mitroglou, W.Ham - Borriello, Sunderland - Scocco, Stoke - Odemwingie, WBA - Bifouma, Hull - Jelavic & Long, Swansea - Emnes.

Stoke/Cardiff merely swapped under-performing players and West Ham/Sunderland/WBA/Fulham have gambled on foreign players settling in quickly (Cornelius/ Osvaldo/ Van wolfswinkel, haven't exactly done that). In theory Jelavic and Long look the better targets but their records this season are no better than our front options

Bit of a cliche, but who would have thought a couple of years back that we would be looking over SP with this 25 man squad?

Many thanks to All the board, Ian Moody Tony Pullis and all those unnamed but nevertheless involved in making this Palace supporter so pleased and proud. My turn now, Season ticket re-newed next week, and singing practise planned this afternoon. TPFC TPFC TPFC TPFC TPFC. (Not many words to learn!)

We have done very astute business in this window for sure and we now have a stronger squad with more depth, some added quality and competition for places.
This window has been so much better that the last one and I don't know who is responsible for that. Perhaps Moody but my thought would be that it's TP and SP that have driven this with perhaps Moody, as he eluded to, looking at current contracts that are running out.
Whoever, it's a great effort, good business and even if the worse happens, which I don't think it will, and we get relegated, even with the inevitable departures we could with some tinkering field a very very strong Championshio team. Anyway like I said I don't think it will happen and next summer we can look to build a squad that can achieve better than just staying up, but staying up comfortably with a few games to go and attract some more quality.
Well done to all, now let's have it!!!!!

A point worth noting; apart from Ince, the 4 players signed are approaching their peak. They are all around 27,so should be at the top of their game for at least three or four years, the time it will take if we are to become an established premiership club. I don't think this is a coincidence. Pulis seems to be thinking over that sort of term and, if he succeeds in his aim, will do what no other Palace manager has achieved in the prem.
