It's a long-standing joke in our house. It's a game we play in the car on the way home to Hackney on a Saturday/Sunday when we get caught up in the football crowds leaving the Emirates on the way back from doing the weekly shopping up on the Holloway Road.

Now, I hope I'm a reasonable judge of character, the changing moods of friends and family etc, the atmosphere when entering a room. BUT, we 3 Palace supporters have never been able to tell from the mood of the Arsenal crowd at 5pm whether they have won, lost or drawn. Absolutely nothing. Now I compare that to the beaming expressions of fans walking back down the Holmesdale on a win day. Says SO much to me.

I did a YTS with a Brentford supporter about 20 years ago and still look out for the Brentford scores. When Trotta missed the penalty v Doncaster I thought of him and I have not seen him for twenty years.
I still remember the Brentford Supporters, Chesterfield, Macclesfield, Yeovil ,Cambridge, Ipswich, Norwich QPR and Southampton and other team supporters I've meet down the years and look out for their result. They are supporters who understand what it is to support their local team and support them regardless, you can have a proper conversation about football with them.

The tutor of YTS was a proper Arsenal supporter so they are there just much more diluted then at other clubs.
A Southampton supporting friend once said to me when Palace win he thinks of me. Who is going to remember the glory supporting soulless Arsenal, Chelsea and the rest because they don't understand what is to truly support them.

One supporter of hacking argued that without it "you will do away with the courage and pluck of the game, and I will be bound to bring over a lot of Frenchmen who would beat you with a week's practice -Blackheath secretary at first meeting of the F.A

Good day to you all. I happened to be offered free tickets to the Arsenal game yesterday and just wanted to offer some views for your entertainment.....

Firstly, forget the game. Palace huffed and puffed, but it was unlikely you were going to win. Cameron Jerome might run around alot, but I don't think he's exactly the best striker in the world. But hey-ho, I'm delighted to see you guys scrap in the Premier League against these big clubs.

So, the reason I am here? Well, the atmopshere you guys generated was, frankly, fantastic. All credit to the fans who made some noise, because if you guys hadn't, I think I would have nodded off. As a Brentford fan, I am used to seeing fans get behind the team, suffer the grave disappointments, yet still scream and shout in support of the team.
But, sat in amongst the Arsenal fans, I can honestly say that it was the s***test footballing experience of my life. After the chant "we support our local team" from you lot, I heard around 5 people around me say "so what?", "that's why you're a small club", "I don't get that mentality, we support a successful team", and so on.

WTF?

These sad kunts at Arsenal have no idea what football really is, and their contempt for smaller clubs is exasperating. The comment that simply did my nut in was the "why are they singing, why don't they just watch the game?" Oh.......my........god, where do I slit my wrists?

So, as far as I give one, if these so-called big clubs have fans like that, why don't they feck off to a European Super League and let the real teams, real fans, etc, battle it out? English football deserves better than this breed of fan.

Anyway, got that off my chest......on here, on the Brentford forums, and on my Facebook. Congrats for being proper football fans who get behind their team. I was really impressed, even if you do need a drum!!! I'll stop letting it eat me up now, and despite not having much affinity for Palace before, I'll certainly raise my glass to you and wish you the very best for the future.

Best ones from Brentford

Perhaps the reason for the contempt towards other teams and their fans is really born out of their lack of silverware won in the past 10 years.

What does irritate me about them is the fact they think have got some god given right to be the top dog in the Premiership. Perhaps this might be their year, but if they do crash and burn going down the final furlong i for one will be over the moon, again.....

Sorry mate, but their lack of silverware has nothing to do with their contempt for smaller teams. It's because they're sterile, soulless, born of Sky TV, never experienced terracing and being out with the lads. They're the middle class of football, and they're welcome to it.

Is the right answer

Opinion in Brentford is not divided. Dunno what he did for Palace and don't want to start an argument, but he tried to mug us off to Kingstonian or Woking's grounds, and leave us homeless whilst pocketing the sale of Griffin Park. He got found out by the fans and he was prevented by an old director who still had the power of veto over the sale of Griffin Park. Noad£s had nowhere to manoeuvre, so he sold off players and then tried to send us into administration. Bees fans then mustered up enough to take on the massive debts he left us to save our club.
Like I said, fondness is not a way we would remember Noad£s.

You would struggle at Griffin Park also to be honest. I've left games laughing my head off after heavy defeats. Win, lose or draw, we're so used to bitter disappointment that we come to expect it. We've picked up 48 points out of the last 54 available, and yet we still think we're going to cock it up at the end of the season!

He didn't look to sell our ground from under us..he just siphoned money out as landlord for years after he left amongst other things

I don't agree, Highbury was one away fixture that i always went to, great terracing throughout. Things changed once the Emirates was built and the 10 year silverless streak really got going.
As for middle class football fans, you could level that at every club....

But the atmosphere had died before they left Highbury. I too used to love it, they kind of lost the ability to support properly over the course of years.

Sorry, caught this one very late. Perfect narrative about the difference between a proper football supporter who has their team in their heart and the plastic glory hunter type who boo their team if they lose two games in a row.Pathetic and an embarassment to proper Arsenal fans.
