Keeper clearly won the ball was never a penalty. Great finish tho. I think we'll end up playing Chamakh and Murray up front.

Getting a minute touch on ball as the keeper takes out the forward does not mean he played the ball.

Yep, Foster did get a touch but if he hadn't slid through and brought Cham down he would have strode on and knocked it into an empty net! Pen all the way.

From the referees angle I don't think he'd have seen it. Its took me a few replays to see that it might not have been a penalty. Managers have the benefit of bias and replays to make their decision, but the referee has to call it.

The manager complaining that if it was a penalty the keeper should have been sent off is absurd. The Referee I think made a good call. Penalty and no card.

OK, he was moving away from goal a little but surely should have been a yellow?

Definitely wasn't a penalty IMO but regardless, the ref gave it and it was stuck away very well by Chammers

La la la your mum

You're basically saying that any player can up end another as long as the player making the tackle at least gets a touch on the ball, then that's legal?

I'd naively assumed that if you follow through and tak eout a player, it doesnt matter if you touch the ball or not first, its still a foul?

What I don't get is what happened with this on sat. If Chamakh dive, he should have been given a yellow, if Foster took him out then he should have had a yellow or red. Either way , there should have been a card given?

Of course you're correct.

I agree, it should have been a yellow for the keeper.

so extending your logic every slide tackle must be a foul as you always take out the man afterwards as he will always fall over your extended leg.

A foul for me is if you don't take the ball first and/or you go in in a dangerous way.

I don't think Foster was particularly dangerous and he definitely touched the ball first, hence it was a fortunate penalty imho.

Would you have been happy if Jules had conceded one in the same circumstances??

Seeing it from the Holmesdale I said straight away I didn't think it was a penalty.

However when you see it from different angles on MOTD I can see why it was awarded.

To me if you get the ball first, it's a good tackle.

I'd have been very pissed off if we conceded a penalty like that.

The keeper did touch the ball, but by up ending Chamakh prevented him from collecting the ball afterwards, which he would have done easily.

Penalty all day long.

Agreed Hoof, and if memory serves me you're a qualified ref?

It was a pen he did not get the ball clear of Chamakh so it was a foul.

When I saw it in the game I couldn't believe the ref had given it as it looked like he clearly got the ball first. Still think it was a bit of a soft penalty, but not going to complain and can see why it was given
