Cannot understand why some are getting so personal and questioning the sanity of others over this issue. It's so obviouse. The only people who knew about the conditions in the area around Goodison were those up there during the day. Not only did they SEE the tiles and branches flying about, they also knew that there was more and worse to come. You can't blame the met office or the wind for going in that direction. But you can blame those who knew it was happening and had been told it was going to get worse for not going outside, looking about and then deciding to tell people miles away...ok, it's alright, do come. That's not the fault of the weather as some suggest. And to think these people actually thought they could be responsible for the safety of those they were inviting into a gale...talk about the mothers of fools! A big appology is expected.

Not the football club's fault!

Still good pr to though

Good PR to apologise for something that is not your fault? Really?
Ok then.

Do you run a business?

Yes, four actually. Your point?

My point is that good PR is vital to most businesses if you don't agree ask yourself why DID Everton apologise? With you being someone who runs 4 businesses i accept you are clearly a better business man than myself who only runs one and apologise to you if I've been nieve in my thinking. I meant no offence.

Not sure if they've done it yet , but good pr would be to offer anyone who can't make the rearranged game a full, refund . 50/50 whether I travel back up there , liver might not take another night away (assuming it's midweek again!)

I'm sure you didn't mean any offence, none was taken. Its a double edged sword really. Apologise for something that is not your fault/responsibility and yes it can be seen that you are showing high regard/concern for the injured party. It can also make you appear a needy creep that is desperate not to upset anyone at any cost and that can therefore have a negative effect in the future.
It comes down to personal preference. If something directly affected someone as a result of me/my business(es) then I would apologise unreservedly. If I was not directly at fault I could (and probably would) show all the sympathy in the world without apologising. Worst case scenario apologising can be seen as accepting responsibility. Next they'll be wanting compensation!

It would appear from the wording of the apology that the club did indeed have the power to postpone the fixture, without any prompting from the FA, the Police, or anyone else.

My own feeling is that they should apologise, not for postponing the game, but for not postponing it much sooner than they did (i.e. when the Red Warning was announced some seven hours earlier). While it is commendable that the Everton CEO has issued an apology, it is rather unclear whether it is for the postponement of the match or the lateness of the decision to postpone it. The unreasonable delay in calling off the match is surely the club's fault.

Does this even matter now? The game was called off, nothing we can do, so why continue to debate it?

Because those who went could or should get some financial recompense. By going away we will not see a chance of this happening. A good enough reason to continue this thread, if you care, that is.

I agree that it is unfortunate for those people, but they should take it up with the club, they won't get a refund from here. The majority of this thread is about why the game was called off, but the fact is it was, so what else can we do?.

What else can we do? Why, keep the pressure on by making reasonable points that will harden the resolve of those who wasted their time in Liverpool just because a few irresponsible people lacked the commonsense to do the obvious and should be shamed to pay up. Anything we can say to add to that sahme, apart from, 'oh, what can we do anyway?'

I disagree with you there. They could have called it off a lot earlier!

Of course they could have !. They must be a pretty sleepy bunch at Goodison Park. I suppose you get use to bad weather in Lancashire1.
