Martyn's was absolute class and an excellent shot stopper just like Speroni. Martin is my favourite ever Palace player and one of my best memory's was when there was serious talk of him leaving and he pulled off a top class save against Leeds and pretty much the whole crowd started chanting England's number 1 England England's number 1.

To be honest England did have great keepers then with Seaman, Flowers etc keeping Martyn from making more caps like he really should have. In this day and age he would be clear number 1 way ahead of Hart and it shows how poor our current standard of keepers are in this country seeing as we have always had decent keepers.

Anyway back on topic

1. Martyn
2. Speroni

No one else in my time can be classed on the list although I thought some were still decent.

Class as they were; Vaesen was only on loan, and Matt Clarke’s career finished prematurely.

Surely Martyn, Jackson & Speroni are the only real contenders

Salako should be in the top five

Clint Hill for the save he made away at Southampton by sitting his fat arse on the ball & refusing to budge.

Yes I remember Salako donning the gloves when Martyn got red-carded at home to Wimbledon ! I was sitting right next to Dave Bassett that night who was alongside his assistant Geoff Taylor who later came to Palace. They were on a scouting mission as we were playing Sheff Utd at 'Home' a few days later.

Think he was beaten a few minutes from time but then made a terrific save near the end.

Speroni

A stint of 10 years, player of the season three years running, who made a monumental contribution in keeping us out of league 1. Without him, I think we'd have been relegated in either the administration season or the preceeding 'Shefti striker' season.

He might not be the best keeper we've ever had, but he achieved his legendary status in a team that had to field Matt Lawrence and N'Dayie on a regular basis.

When you look at the squad in front of Nigel Martyn, I'd say Speroni is probably one of our greatest players of all time, because of his contribution when we were s**t.

Nigel Martyn would have probably cried if he'd seen Matt Lawrence, N'Dayie and Johnny Ertl on the team sheet.... and rightly so.

Billy Callender - longserving ex-miner from Northumberland who earned a testimonial. He was injured for the match itself so he ran the line!
He saved more penalties than he conceded. Possibly the best 'keeper of all time.
