I like the sound of this. Comptetive football for youngsters, broadcasted to showcase talent. Promising.

I just read the article on the SSN website.
Could be good news in providing a competitive platform for academy graduates to showcase their skills, improve and ultimately get picked for the first team.
Might not be so pleasing for lower league clubs though that rely on relationships with bigger clubs to bring their youngsters in on loan to give them competitive experience while helping that clubs results

i am not sure it is worth the investment.

if we have a talented 19 yo who isnt good enough for the first team, wouldnt we want to loan them to a championship squad rather than this developmental program.

This makes sense in countries (like Ireland, most of scandanavia) where there isn't a quality second division. In England, this makes no sense to me.

We already have more professional clubs than any other ountry in Europe, so would we need A "B" League. I would rather us help another club than create a "no-point in having it" B-league.

It is noticeable that CPFC "would be allowed" to join it. Very kind of them. I ddin't hear United have been allowed to leave after our kids beat there's...

It's another Scudalong design for the Premiership to take more control of football.

Taking the bungy jump since 1964. Never to see John Jackson in a shirt again

Sorry to see Lee Hills go, did we ever see Alex Marrow? We did January 2013

We would be allowed to join, once we have raised the standard of our academy to "A" status. We have the funds now to invest and achieve that. I understand it is one of our [many] objectives.

You are right in that it does sound like another boon to the Prem and nail in the coffin of the football league. Sky and BT showing Man Utd "B" v Arsenal "B" instead of the Steel City derby etc?

Also, would the plan really encourage the teams to invest in domestic talent? If there is gold in them there hills, would not the top clubs invest further in their international scouting networks to recruit even more foreign young talent? After all, why restrict your pool to just local talent? You would only increase the prospects for local lads [one of the stated purposes of this move] if regulations were also introduced to control the nationality of the players. And here you would have to steer the regulations very carefuly in order not to fall foul of EU regulations.

The problem with loaning youngsters out to other competitive league teams is these players do not get a chance to experiment with their skill or test out their weaker skills. The onus is for them to play it sure and safe. At least in a league of promising players these very factors are looked into. The result? A more rounded and finished player who is sure of what he can and cannot do and may reach potential, rather than never knowing
