Why the need to honour someone who devoted his life to making lots of money for himself.

No thanks

syphoned off cash for the good of his golf club

A serious allegation and I have NO idea if this is accurate or just some Anti-Noades scurrilous accusations.
All I will say is that I certainly don't recall CPFC going into Administration whilst he was at the helm and of course he did take over the club when it was at rock-bottom financially.

As I mentioned earlier Noades certainly divides opinions amongst our supporters !

Ron Noades RIP

The Noades 'restructuring' of the 80's is classified by the FA as an administration, so he was the first to lead us down that ignominious road before Goldberg and Jordan.

Second member of the Palace Hall of Shame (after Ray Bloye) for me. That's all!!

The crowd is outstanding, and especially with the penalty after 44 minutes it was clear when we came out after half-time the welcome would be pretty loud and not too friendly. Crystal Palace wanted to strike back, so that was all clear. This is a wonderful place to play football - Jurgen Klopp

My post did make the point that it was not illegal (highlighted in red).

Whilst his actions broke no laws, he was hardly being a benefactor to CPFC as he had bought the club for a song and could have led Palace to even greater success but he chose to be greedy and cash in.

That behaviour does not warrant him being "honoured" by the club, in my opinion.

Yes, I can read.

So chairmen need to be benefactors to the club to fulfil your ideal of a chairman, perhaps you ought to mention that to CPFC2010, should they just plough all of their wealth in to satisfy your ambition? He bought the club for a song as it had been run down by the previous incumbent and no-one else wanted it, or put another way, he saw an opportunity and had the money to achieve it.

You've side stepped the question I want you and others to answer, why shouldn't he spend money made from his business?

Exactly....... we achieved promotion to the top flight under Bloye's "stewardship" too.

Sometimes on field achievements occur despite the financial dodgy shenanigans of Chairmen.

I can read too.

If you can read why did you feel the need to point out something I had already acknowledged?

Why are you being so aggressive? You have an opinion and so do I. No need for it.

I have not "sidestepped" anything but made it plain that I do not regard him as a benefactor and therefore totally unacceptable as a potential candidate to be honoured.

Earlier you suggested that Noades was similar to myself (based on my right leaning politics and capitalist views I guess), but as far as Palace is concerned he is nothing like me - if I had a windfall I would donate it to Palace without question. I would not be looking for a return on my money.

Lets hope I've cleared that up without the need for you to be in my face about it.... LOL

I'm not being aggressive Hoof, there's not any point in pursuing this as you have again failed to answer anything I've asked you.

Hogwash.
There was NO 'Administration' under Noades and you know it.

Like him or loathe him he took over a club on it's knees with gates under 6,000 and whilst he was at the helm we were promoted into the top division, made it to 3rd in that division, went to an FA Cup final, won the ZDS final in fact went to Wembley 5 times. And of course he improved the facilities with the building of the Holmesdale and Whitehorse stands. Not a bad record !

As I have said Noades divides opinions and of course this leads to interesting debates on HOL !!!!

I think I have said enough about Noades so nothing more to add. The Anti-Noades fraternity will certainly NOT change my viewpoint !

Although what you say is factual Willo, and is to be respected, you cannot argue about Ron Noad's reasons. A bit like Hitler taking over an old Army barracks at Austwitz and putting in loads of dosh to develope it. A generous act, but to what end? Seriously tho', my only negative about a man I admired is his 'small' view on the overall picture. Too much time selling photo-copies of team sheets than spending out on a really good product. Putting the team in a new strip of no appropriate colour or design for the final, thus ignoring the traditions of this great club (not to mention the pockets of the supporters). And was he responsible for the reduction of seated accomodation in the Whitehorse for a few more rich man's boxes? Do remember the great man, but for the right reasons.

Noades has said that they didn't have the right coloured shirts for the replay so a kit needed to be found asap.At short notice they ended up getting the yellow and black kit and he has admitted he hated it !

All our on field success was due to Steve Coppell.

Nothing to do with Noades, who got lucky appointing a cheap young manager at the time who just turned out to be a genius.

The Holmesdale stand was only built because a grant was available..... once again Noades going for the cheap option... the stand itself suffers many defects to this day.

The Pro-Noades fraternity will never change my viewpoint either.

.

Luck or sound judgement ?
Credit to Noades for appointing Coppell ! As for "On field success" it was actually Noades who scouted the likes of Bright, Thomas and Pemberton and he recommended them to Coppell. That said, the success achieved under Coppell would suggest that the appointment was a sound one !
