Showing my age, but always loved Doris in my early Palace supporting Days. Clyne is a different class and should play for England.

Humprey was Mr Steady week in week out. Sewell was a top class full back. Clyne tops the lot for me though due to his performance levels every week at such a young age. Ward slots in just behind Clyne in my book. So:

1. Clyne
2. Ward
3. Sewell
4. Humphrey
5. Edworthy
6. Hinshelwood
7. Pemberton
8. Butterfield

Nat Clynne by a mile, but Ward is pretty good and may even be better other than at full back.

Yes I would agree Ward is a very versatile player so I would hope he gets more opportunities to play in different positions. Who knows, he may turn out to be something very special in any one of three different positions.?

Does anyone else remember John Sewell? He was making errors towards the end but at his peak he was sound. Otherwise I would go along with Humphrey and Clyne as possibly being ahead of Ward at the moment.

I think his nickname was 'SHOVELL'.

Not sure what Palace team you have followed Mr alaneagle but in fact David Payne was a defender (right back)

As for you post re John Sewell he was infact a centre half and his nickname was The Duke
