I think we showed them too much respect and didn't break quickly enough when we had the chance to.

And what about Parr swapping shirts with Rooney at the end? That p*ssed me off. They're supposed to be there to win points, not collect f*cking souvenirs.

.

In our position we have to show the top teams a significant amount of respect - we simply cannot have an open expansive game.

Where did I argue for an open expansive game? My point is that we gave them too much time and space on the ball, didn't harry and hassle them enough and didn't break quickly when we had the chance to.

And swapping shirts at the end is what I'd expect Brighton to do if they ever got into the top flight. I'd be surprised if TP was very chuffed about that tbh.

Our game was not a "Pressing one" where we chased and harried the player in possession. Our gameplan appeared to be to get behind the ball, sit deep, be nice and compact and not give much away.Because we sat deep it was not easy to support the forwards when the ball went up to them.
At the end of the day we just couldn't afford to throw players forward and play an expansive game against the likes of Man Utd.

I'm fully aware of what the gameplan was.

Again, I never argued for an expansive game. Just wish we'd got in the faces a bit more and hadn't given them all day on the ball.

When I used the word "Expansive" this was as a result of my interpretation of your comments regarding breaking quickly.

IF we had "Got in their faces" we might have lost our compact 'Shape'which was obviously the gameplan. And if we hadn't conceded that penalty it would have worked. It changed the game entirely.

That's not my understanding of the word "expansive" in relation to a style of football. Never mind though. I agree the gameplan was working up to a point, although I always felt they would score in the end because we were giving them too much time and space to pick their passes.

Yes, obviously goals change games. Maybe if we'd tried a little harder to get one of our own before conceding we might have got something from the match.

Fair enough, I feel we didn't pressure them and get tight, in order to minimise space behind the player for them to play through. We seemed to close down the space for them to play freely in, and for the most part it worked.

As for swapping shirts, some players simply like to collect mementos of a big match. I'd say for most of our squad playing in the premiership is a big deal and they want mementos of big days. Imagine you are Gayle, playing in non-leagues over a season ago, now you're playing against arguably one of the most famous clubs in the world.

I don't care about how amazing it is for Gayle or anyone else - they are premier league footballers and should carry themselves like that. The message swapping shirts sends out is that we're a little club and we're really glad just to be here on the same pitch as Man Utd. Next they'll be asking for an bleedin' autograph.

It's the wrong mindset imo.

Disagree entirely Seth. Had we won would it have been a big issue for you?
If it was joking around before the game then fair enough but once the match has finished there's nothing you can do to change the result.
TP and Moyes may have shared a glass of wine - doesn't make TP any less focussed on winning.

I don't want to patronise but I suspect, like me, you fine EVERYTHING annoying when we lose and gloss over it when we win!

I was a bit annoyed at the shirt swapping too to be honest. I felt the same when SOK did it with John Terry at Chelsea.

If I was Wayne Rooney, I'd love someone asking me for my shirt after a game. Not only would I have won the match, I'd have won the mental battle too. It just shows an inferiority complex on our part.

If a Palace player really needs to ask another guy for his shirt, at least swap them down the tunnel so that we don't have to see it.

It was my dream to play for Palace and to make my debut. I've always played for the club so if I'm playing here, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.

It did seem a bit naive of Parr, but I can somewhat understand it. That said, Pulis should give Parr the hairdryer for thinking that he wont get another opportunity to swap shirts with him! No one in the team should be feeling like a tourist in this league.

Tactically, I was actually suprised by how forward and attacking we were! Refreshing, and definately an insight into how TP might continue to develope the team given the opportunity.
