I think the important thing is that Pulis is clear that we have not got the quality to play much more than the game we are playing. We are limited by the players in the squad. Chammers is clearly the best player we have and does have the touch of class that can get us goals but until Ledley gets into the groove then we must face up to the fact that the game plan is limited by the players we have.

I agree, points are what its about, not 'flattering to impress'. Ultimately, newcomers to this league have to grind out results to survive. The same people who complain that the football isn't attractive, weren't supporting Holloway after a run of 7 games being beaten because we 'tried to play them at their own game'. On our budget and calibre of talent, we have to play to our strengths, not the oppositions. That losing streak of Holloway is going to be what sends us down, if we're relegated.

More stats I've just worked out: Under Holloway: Average shots on target (for): 2.5 Under Millen: Average shots on target (for): 3 Under Pulis: Average shots on target (for): 4 So Pulis' stats are better than Holloway even though it's dull as hell I guess it's worth it and it was entertaining under Holloway?

unless we start scoring goals (one penalty in last four games) we are going to get relegated, so this simplistic either or argument about points v more attacking or pretty football doesn't follow

The problems almost all the teams near the bottom have are in defence. Virtually all teams who get relegated are poor defensively. Pulis has solved that for us. We scored 6 goals in the first 12 games. We've now scored another 13. Yes, it's still too low, but it's a lot better than losing week in week out: which we were doing. We have a chance in most games, despite being poor. We're matching the other teams point for point over then last five games and only Sunderland have done better in the last 10. And they're now struggling again after their cup runs. The problem this season was the first 10 games where we played attacking football but were utterly atrocious defensively. Until we have a chance to get a new left back, and a replacement for KG we're stuck with what we're doing right now. The defense is too vulnerable to be adventurous. Parr and Moxey are not good enough for this level even if they really give it their all (which they do). We've been short a striker all year, despite getting plenty of balls into the box in many games. We've snatched at the chances we've had and even the midfield has struggled to hit a ball cleanly. I think people have forgotten how far back we were when Pulis took over. We were dead and buried according to almost all the commentators and pundits. We now have a decent chance to stay up. It's in our own hands, which is not something we could have said 10 games in. Edited by NickinOX (17 Mar 2014 1.31am)
