How many people have got into Palace without having friends or family who were already fans? Next to none I’d say. Following a team like Palace is only enjoyable because you feel part of something and most people get into it when they’re brought by someone. Following a team like Palace is only enjoyable because you feel part of something and most people get into it when they’re brought by someone. So trying to entice entire communities into coming doesn’t work. You can’t force it.

But why though? Are some put off by large groups of white people? Is it pub culture they do not like? Or is it the cost?

I live in Abbey wood and have done a lot of plumbing work for them and they don't like paying top dollar.

I became a Palace fan not because of my mum or dad, my mum hates football my dad was a Gillingham fan

I became a palace fan because I grew up in Thornton Heath, Green Lane

Majority of Palace fans support the club because their family or friends did, as people have pointed out. Some people will move into the area and grow to support the club. But those are people who for whatever reason feel to support their local club and so took an interest, then fell for the club as a result, i.e. a minority of the people who move into the area. The only way to attract more fans of a specific type is to attract more fans in general. It's not just blacks and Asians, most whites i know will only "support" the likes of arsenal or Man U as well. So you can't filter the fans you bring in, that would be crass and stupid. The club being bigger would bring in more fans, of all colours. That's all there is to it. Not convinced I share the dream of Palace being South London's answer to Chelsea or Spurs personally, think that would ruin the experience of being a Palace fan in some ways. Otoh it would be nice if Palace dominated south of the river in terms of support. Just be happy whatever happens I suppose
