The majority was far less than was expected. I am confident that the Conservatives will win the seat back at the 'General Election'. Certainly NOT the resounding victory which UKIP expected.

Really, 3,000 is quite a lot in my book. Tories had a 10,000 majority prior so a 13,000 turnaround is very impressive and UKIP will smash the tories in the GE.

So Reckless turned a 10'000 majority for Reckless into one of 3000. Did well losing himself 7000 worth of majority

You are unreal, Willo.

Do you receive an e-mail from Conservative central office telling you what 'line to take'?

Line 1 - we don't care about Clacton, it's all about Rochester

Line 2 (after it became clear the Tories were going to lose) - the Tory vote held up, it's Labour who really suffered

Line 3 (expect this in all the interviews today) - it's a by-election, people are expected to kick the government

You LOST mate. And the people at the top of your party, whom you so faithfully follow, couldn't give a fig about you or your principles. Indeed they secretly despise you. You are merely a means to the end of them staying in office. Wake up and smell the coffee.

What errant hogwash.
Ther result was much closer that the forecasters had predicted and Conservatives feel that we can win it back at the 'General Election'.

The result was the opposite of what the Tories expected when the by-election was announced. Clacton they understood they would lose. Rochester they did not.

It is actually a huge huge blow for the Tories - only softened by the fact that it has been so long coming they have managed to spin it as if they expected to lose the entire time!

We need a 'hogwash' smiley.

OknotOK is correct. What I wrote is what happened, ie, the truth.

What you wrote is what the Tory spin machine wants people to believe, ie, lies.

You do realise he defected to another party since the previous election?

Is that a 'yes'?

Your comment was either facile or ignorant, I just wasn't sure which.

Being an incumbent is a big perk. Contrast 'Heywood and Middleton' or 'Newark' with 'Clacton' or 'Rochester and Strood', and it’s clear that being a sitting MP with name recognition is a powerful asset – these are the only types of UKIPers who have won election to Parliament.
I happen to believe that 'Reckless' is far from safe at the 'General Election'.

A bigger straw was never clutched.
Yes the same man was elected with a smaller majority but the majority of voters vote for a party not an MP.
I doubt Reckless would have been returned if he had gone to Labour.

Wake up and smell the coffee Willo.

At the GE I believe:

Conservatives will lose seats to UKIP and Labour.
Labour will lose seats to UKIP and SNP.
Libdems will lose seats to everyone.
Greens will lose their seat.

Optimistic as ever

The Tories are only getting what they deserve for years ago electing a leader with views that differed massively from the viewpoints of the vast number of their members and even MPs.
