Quote Baz Eagle at 27 Jun 2014 7.16pm

Cameron is kidding himself (and his domestic UK audience) that he will change policy direction of the EU. The EU end game is a United States of Europe - whether we like it or not. The fundamental question is whether we want to be part of that end game or not. I suspect the growing feeling is in the negative.

I think you are completely right. Just that the UK (and a few other member states) are looking to create a 2-track Europe so that we can stay in, but not commit to the full package. John Major denied the possibility of a 2-track Europe but it was wrong then and is even more wrong now.

I think we will see that outcome within 5 years, with a core of around 16 member states in the 'inner' group and the rest in an 'outer' group, outside the Euro, some outside Schengen and outside of some of the common taxation agreements which will have to come in very soon.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right.

Happier? now argue the point not the medium.
I think it shows that the votes were indeed protest ones, which is good news. I still feel people could have protest voted with one of the other alternatives.

What point?

Ukip vote between 9 and 14% depending on which poll you prefer. It's hardly news, not the most controversial debating point you've come up with.

The great white Tory hope is that the economy brings most would-be ukippers back to the fold. Sadly, I think the economy will indeed save them. Labour were always going to struggle after such a huge defeat. And the FPTP system will make lots of people, who might have voted ukip, not want to 'waste' their vote.

Much more interesting is the sweaty referendum. If they went that really would throw a spanner into westminster politics. Sadly I think we'll be stuck with the jocks for another 300 years.

He was relatively succesful in recruiting party members in all fairness to him - whatever his other failings may have been. Not sure that UKIP are givng signed copies of Mein Kampf and a photo of their leader to their favourite party members but perhaps someone should suggest it.

Hitler was one of the most effective and successful political orators ever. What's your point, Nick?

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Not the best move for a party accused of being a bit right wing to then get found out telling their members to learn from Hitler.

I agree with your point though.

Wow, this is great......You can't even vote for the only party that seriously argues against the direction the EU is taking without someone bringing up Hitler's name.

Or is it just a game for some on the left to compare things they don't like to Hitler.

Israel......compared to Hitler.
Ukip........compared to Hitler.

I wonder what's next.

The article was from that bastion of the left...or did you not read it.

You quoted it to make a silly point.

Regardless I've amended the post.

What silly point.? By quote do you mean using what you said or the article. I don't quote from articles anymore. You might tell me off

Call me paranoid but I reckon you just get a hard on using Ukip and Hitler in the same sentence.

Still.....While I moan about your hatred of Ukip....It's kind of fun in a knockabout way.

Hitler was nothing more than a demagogue. A very, very good one to be fair.

If UKIP want to hang around the gutter and rabble-rouse to get more votes from the paranoid and take advantage of the fears of some like Adolf did then good luck to 'em and their volk.
