Because the media want us to hate them but are simultaneously promoting them at the same time?

The others you mention haven't triggered anything the media deem worthy of their attention.

That's how I see it too.

Yeah me too. I hate everything UKIP stand for but trying to constantly belittle them and mock them in the press is just giving them free marketing ahead of the elections and probably winning them a few votes rahter than the other way round.

Every single thread is turning into this tedious denigration of each other.

My work is becoming more interesting. Stop it.

This is what happens when a season peters out...
Back to the subject. UKIP are dangerous and are pulling the wool over people's eyes. They have been favoured and given a lot of space to spew their vile agenda in the media.
Why are the press not even exploring any ideas that are anti austerity? The idea has not even been explored in the mainstream.

Blame Clegg for agreeing to give him a radio and TV debate. Since those were arranged the coverage of Farage and UKIP has soared.

They obviously don't think it would garner much interest from it's readers or viewers. I'd never even heard of TUSC before you mentioned it on here, and I suspect I'm not alone.

They dangled the EU carrot for years. UKIP have thrown in straight into the scrum.

UKIP don't have a manifesto! Well they did until Farage himself described it as drivel. So why would people want to vote for anyone who hasn't even got a public policy document? That said most of the time parties don't adhere to what they put in their manifesto anyway!
What is known is that they are funded by ex Tories or the wives of Tories who have left the party because their agenda isn't neoliberal or right wing enough.

UKIP support mass privatisation (did you know that in a yougov poll, a majority supported the renationalisation of the rail system and energy companies - even those who support UKIP- talk about turkeys voting for Christmas!), the destruction of what is left of the social security safety net, massive tax cuts for the protection of the idle rentier class (see [Link] ), the deregulation of firearms, the militarisation of the police, the construction of dozens of new privately operated jails as part of the prison-industrial complex, open discrimination against homosexuals, the scrapping of our human rights, the indoctrination of children with nationalist propaganda, anti-environmentalism, the expansion of Iain Duncan Smith's forced labour schemes, an energy policy built on heavily subsidised nuclear power plants ..I could go on.

It surprises me that labour supporters are defecting to a party that is even more right wing than the tories.

Whilst I agree that Farage may have a point about europe and the EU, he is using this as a front to try and push through what I've listed above.
Like I said, very very dangerous.

I'd Vote for that !

More Prison Space....Tick
Scrapping Human Rights Act....Tick
Forced Labour Schemes....Tick
Nuclear Power....Tick

Some of the other stuff like discrimination sounds made up, can't imagine that in the manifesto.

Most of the real stuff are vote winners !

Where do I sign ?

The blame for that lies firmly with the political classes.
Nobody ever sticks to their manifesto pledges, and they rarely even pretend to try, consequently the manifesto is now a bit irrelevant. It's pretty much down to 'liking the cut of his jib'.

There are those who would vote for a mentally impaired gibbon if it had the right coloured rosette, and there are others who vote for 'anyone but xxxx'. You get the politicians you deserve, and ours are absolute sh*te and have been since, dare I say it, Maggie and Tony Benn, and they are just getting sh*tter!

I am pretty sure that you could rely on UKIP to increase and relax MP expenses.

Virtually all of their proposals were utter drivel, or inconsequential.

No one can tell what their (non-EU) policies really are. From what I've seen, they tell the voter in Hull something very different to the one in Croydon. Whatever proves popular locally.

I'd be very weary of voting for a party whose policies (again, other than Europe) are a mystery.

I imagine nickgusset was expecting an argument from the right, not the centre left. Nice to be on the side of the racists and homophobes.

Pathetic. Labelling all UKIP supporters as racist and whatever homophobic means these days is lazy and cheap.

I sometimes wonder if you may have autism as you don't seem to get irony or sarcasm.

There is many a true word said in jest.

Also, why are you so punchy? I thought you deplored personal remarks on here. Do you have a sympathy period for when your missus is on the blob in order to understand and show solidarity with the female condition?

I must confess that I view UKIP voters as elderly people who still call black people "them coloureds" and who refuse to have their sink unblocked by a Polish plumber. I am not saying that is what they are, as that would be lazy and cheap. I am only saying that this is my personal perception.

And that, my friend, is prejudice.

Yes, indeed. Rather like the perception that liberal voters have no clear political orientation and are all beardy, sandal wearing homosexuals.

However, I am prepared to be educated if I am presented with good evidence indicating that UKIP enjoy a broader support accross the demographic in terms of age, ethnicity and so on. Do you have any?

UKIP are a protest party, plain and simple.

I'm very likely to vote for them NOT because I think they have any worthwhile policies, but because I am fed up with the centrist, metropolitan consensus of the "major" parties. (Who, incidentally, are so "major" that they have fewer than half a million members between them, so if you want unrepresentative media representation it doesn't come much more unrepresentative than that!)

Especially the Tory party who are an even worse bunch of charlatans than New Labour.

The political class need a kick up the backside and I think voting UKIP will help deliver that.

They might well be full of unsavoury characters and I wouldn't trust them to run a brothel let alone a country, but that's not the point.

It's a protest vote, which I think is a perfectly legitimate political position to take.
