It's good to talk. Literally. Whether it's on here, to your GP, to your mates or family or to a counsellor, try to talk it out an hopefully things will become clearer to you.

All the very best, and ignore the perfect people who've never made a mistake in their perfect lives

This. A girl I have been dating recently, started showing some strange behavioural patterns and eventually confided in me that she had a history of depression. Her mechanism to dealing with it was to shut people out and sleep. It was kinda a long distance thing, so getting in the car to drag her out of bed wasn't much of an option, so we would talk, for hours about what's bothering her, life, future plans & the interests we shared.

The only problem I had was to keep her talking when I wasn't around to talk to, so I suggested she see a doctor, which she has. Turns out she has anxiety, depression and severe psychological distress and although getting hold of her is pretty difficult. Getting her doing stuff and spending time with people who focus her on other things is helping. She's getting counselling too and has taken up running to clear her head.

Giving her stuff to look forward to is definitely helping her. Ultimately though, we won't end up together I don't think, but we'll always be close.

La la la your mum

Stuart

I'm a regular visitor on here but don’t post much, but wanted to just share my view.

Anyone who has genuinely suffered from depression will understand and sympathise with what you are going through – regardless of what “wrongs” you may have done.
If I'm honest though this Forum probably isn't the best place to look for advice on the subject but having said that, if just one person can offer you hope then it will be worth it.

You are already heading in the right direction having admitted you are struggling and need help, that’s not easy.

Medication DOES help some people, each person is different and each one comes with its own pros and cons and they all take time to settle down, so I would 100% recommend you stick with them.

I would highly recommend going to a cognitive behavioural therapy group, talk to your Dr and ask them to refer you as NHS offer a free service, group therapy is far better although it does seem daunting at first.

Before anyone says anything I'm not a wannabe counsellor, therapist or a crazy preacher, just a fellow fan who knows what it’s like.

Its little comfort at first, but you will be surprised at how many people are in the same boat mate and have or are going through similar, so your defo not alone… Depression and Supporting Palace… who’d have thought it eh

Good luck mate.

..."constantly looking at old photos and old emails of love".

Dude you need to stop doing that. If you want to move forward you have to face in the right direction not keep looking back. Delete all that s*** - out of sight out of mind.

Would echo this. CBT has helped me no end. Never suffered from depression but therapy has helped me keep my destructive behaviours in check.

I have to say Stuart you did miss a trick by not calling your thread "Heaven knows I'm miserable now."

Pay attention next time... LOL

I stopped reading here. This is all I need to know about you.

You're entitled to your opinion about what he did, of course, but did you really need to post that when the bloke is obviously feeling low already? Sometimes it's best not to say anything at all?

Good luck Stuart, can't really help you myself, but wish you all the best. Remember, you don't know what's around the corner. The best times of your life are probably still to come

^^^ This..good luck mate.

get professional help from a shrink. And get prescribed by one (better than a gp). Getting the right meds is crucial. Im on citalopram, as i have a serotonin imbalance. But everyone's different. Try also getting one on one therapy. I would stress that it doesnt work for everyone tho. If you go, put the hard yards in. What i mean is, be straight wiv em, and do your "homework" that theyll give you. You're wasting each others time if you dont. Some weeks for me were f***ing tough, mentally draining. But its worth it if you put the work in.
I have to work at my depression every day. Sometimes take a step back and think. Ive improved a lot, but its still a work in progress. I got myself into three courses, got my diploma in horticulture, and im a professional gardener now. Fresh air, exercise, and nice places to work in.
Dont get me wrong. I still have my bad days, where i just cant face the world, lazy, and just need time out. If this happens, dont beat yourself up. Do what you need to do, to chill and relax. Be self indulgent (without birds!).
Read the book, shoot the damned dog. The black dog phrase coined by churchill (not the insurance bulldog). It makes you realise you're not alone with this illness. Helps you identify with stuff, and importantly, that theres people worse with it than you.

ps. You may find that you sleep a lot at times. Dont sweat this either (unless it becomes like, really a lot).
Sleep is a great way to let the brain repair itself, and its cells.

I was diagnosed with depression following divorce.

I was not prescribed any tablets, but had a course of CBT sessions.

What helped for me was:

Look to the future and not dwell on the past.

Take up sport / exercise.

Try to make plans so you have things to look forward to at the weekends / in a week / months time
