you've failed to consider that possibly the H.fanatics have just used it as a 'rebel' flag & not considered or even don't know the history of the flag.

Yep, that was my understanding. It actually wasn't flown as a standalone flag; it was a small part of a banner. It was red and blue and was construed as denoting Palace as rebels and underdogs. But they are aware now, and, to their credit, readily agreed to drop it when they understood the significance and how it might be detrimental to the club's reputation.

How many times does it have to be said that most people think the HF didn't understand the connotations but have now been told by the club.

Has to be said more than a few times. This fact gets lost in the reams of mostly irrelevant historical interpretations, professions of flag love, windups, and infringements on personal freedom of expression arguments in this thread.

However, think we're making progress. Seems like we should just be waving a red and blue flag with a very large eagle on it.

I think it's been a good thread with lots of interesting arguments and ideas.

It's been a typically interesting 'general talk' thread in that sense.

Don't make me larf! A good third of this thread has been you trying to convince us that you could display the flag and people could just ask you whether you have racist intent or not, plus a series of exasperated responders unsuccessfully trying to combat your highly individualized logic.

Oh well, I thought it was an interesting discussion about the the personal right of expression versus offence that groups might take to the flag..

It is of course legal to fly this flag....But despite how you phrase your post I never stated a desire to fly it myself....As I say it's about another person's right of expression.

It's a fact that the flag means different things to different people.

Some people objected, others agreed and some sat on the fence so you description of the thread is highly myopic.

For crapsake Stirling, go and fly a Swaztica for the same head-in-the-sand reason and see the result. Yes it's not illegal and people have their own take, they will keep to themselves.....yea right. Thank god the new season's here soon

I'm with Stirling, overall I think this thread has been a good one. A couple of posters though don't seem to think that anyone is entitled to a differing opinion.

You keep talking about the swaztika but they're completely different arguments.

This thread is about flying a flag at Selhurst and the impression this gives to the rest of the World. The Swaztica, like the confederate rag is a flag. It's not a completely different argument. The point being asked about is whether people should be happily allowed to fly any flag they wish and that's the issue I'm addressing. If you are stating they should be able to than that includes the swatztica. As you say they have a difference of opinion and assume it is ok to do so. Ok do it then and the image this gives of our club? You're ok with that? I hope not
