AFC Croydon Athletic welcome promotion rivals and top of the table Banstead Athletic for a landmark clash in the history of the history of the Rams.

This signals the first game at Mayfield Stadium since the now defunct Croydon Athletic FC entertained Folkestone Invicta on 4th December 2011. It promises to be an exciting occasion.

Banstead Athletic have had an excellent start to the season after a few years in the doldrums. A 2-0 second week reverse at the hands of Eversley & California is their only defeat this season and that is more than 3 months ago. They have also been free scoring with 29 goals in 11 league matches only bettered by the Rams who have hit 34 whilst at the back they have conceded just 12 which is equal best with, you’ve guessed it, the Rams!

Manager Antony Williams will have some decisions to make ahead of this match. Last week’s 9-0 demolition of Bedfont & Feltham despite several first team regulars being missing means he has a selection problem. Club Captain Tony Martin is expected to be recalled but Williams will be working hard with his coaches to settle on the starting 11. Taylor Maddock will serve the last of his 3 match ban tomorrow and will also be fighting for a place come next week’s encounter with Ash United.

As the final touches to the pitch and Stadium take place this week there has been a cautious eye on the weather. Overnight heavy rain is due to die out on Friday morning with the sun expected to make an appearance this afternoon. Despite a clear night temperatures will not fall below 8 degrees and will then climb to around 12 degrees for the match. There is a risk of an isolated shower during the morning but there is expected to be a glimpse of the sun ready for kick-off at 2pm.

Most of Division One will be in action tomorrow. Second placed Farleigh Rovers makes the journey to Ash United whilst third placed Worcester Park entertain Epsom Athletic. Bedfont & Feltham, with a caretaker manager at the helm, travel to Sheerwater whilst elsewhere Alton Town entertain Staines Lammas, CB Hounslow United take on Sandhurst Town and Eversley & California make the journey to take on Dorking.

Tomorrow’s game at Mayfield Stadium kicks off at 2pm but if you are coming along plan for a long stay with the England v Slovenia European Championship Qualifier being shown live in the clubhouse from 5pm.
