Pensions in the public sector form part of pay and conditions, they are not an extra. Anyone who thinks that fireman (or anyone) want to strike is delusional. Striking is last resort. Totally agree. I am now 58 and have worked in the public sector since I was 16. I will retire at 60 but not get my State pension until I am 66! My "gold-plated" Public Sector pension will be approx 18k for 44 years service. Before anyone says "how generous" it is only going to be 18k due to me working most weekends, Xmas Day/Boxing Day, NY Day and Easter, for the last 2 years. People should not believe all they read in the media about Public Sector pensions. Poor you, you've been really hard done by

Waddasurprise! Response times have fallen and are below target in several boroughs. Still saved a few bob and got rid of some pesky public sector workers when they closed several stations down.

London Fire Brigade pointed out that average times still fell within their six and eight minute targets. They increased by 7 seconds on average.

Thanks for the clichéd dig. I have to work extra hours in my job, always have done. Why? Because the job requires it, do I expect anything in return? No, I'm happy to go the extra mile. Maybe that's the difference between a private and public sector worker. You have a mentality of life owes you something. Enjoy putting your feet up at 60 while people like me pay for it working until 67, not sure how you have the temerity to feel hard done by but you'll not get any sympathy on here.

Perhaps if the system wasn't skewed, we could all retire at 60 on a decent pension, but we allowed trillions to be spent bailing out banks and allow the few to dodge paying fair taxes. Still doesn't matter, as long as we're manipulated into blaming the wrong people.

The money "spent" bailing out the banks has to be repaid, and has nothing to do with public pensions needing reform. No ones being manipulated or blaming the firemen, we just aren't sympathising with them.

I have worked since I was 16 and my pensions are on track to give me £7k at 65. Sounds like you need to join a union. They fight for this kind of thing you know.
