The work won't be finished until next April and, at the moment, it's about the same as it always was. They have reduced the number of lanes approaching the tunnel so there's always going to be a degree of slowing down. I only use it once a month at most, and now won't have to worry about making sure I've got �4 change every time I do. / This. All you have to do is stick at least �10 in a pre-pay account and it will only cost �1.67 each way. I only use it once a month at most, and now won't have to worry about making sure I've got �4 change every time I do.

As for foreign drivers, they can be fined just like we can if we get flashed by a speed camera whilst abroad.

I am over from Germany for Christmas. I was pleasantly surprised to drive through without being charged. Then I remembered this thread (thank you HOL). Could somebody advise me on exactly what I need to do to avoid a fine? I have to say there isn't a single sign up warning unsuspecting tourists that they have to pay. There is no way as a visitor you would realise that there is a fee. Which I find totally unacceptable. I'll pay it because I know about it but if I was a normal tourist I'd refuse to. It's scandalous to charge motorists without even warning them beforehand. ...we must expand...get more pupils...so that the knowledge will spread...

I was pleasantly surprised to drive through without being charged. Then I remembered this thread (thank you HOL).

Could somebody advise me on exactly what I need to do to avoid a fine?

I have to say there isn't a single sign up warning unsuspecting tourists that they have to pay. There is no way as a visitor you would realise that there is a fee. Which I find totally unacceptable. I'll pay it because I know about it but if I was a normal tourist I'd refuse to. It's scandalous to charge motorists without even warning them beforehand.

There were lots of roadworks and I saw speed limit signs but no signs warning about payments. This was coming from dover.
