Lucy - 4/10

Great concept; however the development of the story was piss poor. Plus it got a bit ridiculous at the end if you ask me.

But do you know what its really about?

Birdman - 8.5 out of 10

A really different film which was bold in its approach. I liked the subtext, the actors were brilliant and the incidental humour was enjoyable too. A few plot difficulties for me but I get the impression that's what the director wanted.

I watched this saturday round a mates and it's nearly 2 hours of my life I won't get back.

Like you say it was bold in it's approach I like the way Norton bounced off Keaton but it was all a bit WTF and if this is supposed to be an adaptation of a comic book hero and is what you are looking for then don't waste you're time.

2/10

What else we watched

Gaurdians of the galaxy

Thought this was ok for a comic book adaptation film as I'm not into the DC/Marval thing but this film had it's moments.

7/10

Exodus gods and kings

Again biblical adaptations ain't my thing but this was quite good at the beggining and Bale plays a good role, but after the plagues and sea parting it got a bit cack so turned off before the end.

6/10

What do you mean an adaptation of a comic book hero? It may be called Birdman but the trailer clearly shows it isn't that sort of film. If that made you disappointed then not really grounds for a low rating.

I don't think that is your point but no need to mention comic book heroes, that isn't what it's meant to be. It's a critique of public attitude and film critics. That obviously doesn't mean it's good but I thought the film worked. It was funny in parts and the actors were extremely convincing for me. I agree a bit confusing but I think that's what the director was going for. Can be annoying I know.

I haven't seen Exodus.

I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty good too. Didn't really buy into the special weapon they had or how the villains managed just to be all-powerful without any explanation of how they got their power. I know it's sci-fi but with Star Wars we know why Darth Vader is powerful: the force and the Emperor. Here it was just - here are the villains, they're almost unbeatable just accept it.

I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry.

If you're referring to my comments on Birdman then you are a presumptive moron. Or you're trying to wind me up. Just for clarification, Birdman is not a comic book film nor is it based on a comic book character called Birdman.
It is a dark comedy about the lives of actors, one of whom has played a superhero called Birdman in his glory years. Since then he has become wholly disillusioned and depressed.

Does he manage to thwart the super villian at the end?

American Sniper - 6.5/10

I like sniper films generally, but it felt like a lot of other war films. Worth a watch if you can find it on a streaming website, or wait for it to come out on TV.

'71 - 9/10 Set in 1971 it portrays a night in the life of a young British soldier cut adrift from colleagues on the streets of Belfast. A thought provoking insight into the murky works of the Army's intelligence service.

We still kill the old way - 6/10- A tongue in cheek yarn about a group of 'real'old time East End villians who take on wanna be gangster yoof on an East London Estate.

The Guvnors - 6/10 - the name given to a football 'firm' from the 80's, now retired and pursuing respectable careers. That is until one of their own (David Essex) is attacked by an out of control gang on a South East London estate. The reunion of the 'firm' has some predictable consequences but with a nice twist to it.

Watched 30 Minutes or Less on Netflix, from 2011.

Would give it 6/10 because I'm the sort of guy that liked Dude Where's My Car (e.g.: I am an immature simpleton), however, if you're an adult with an eye for culture you'd probably give it 3/10 or less. I laughed a few times though.

I watched The Equalizer - 9.5/10

Denzel washington starred in this one, and for me the darkness yet somber tone of the film is very intriguing from the off. Must say i really did enjoy this film, perhaps a little biased as i like these types of movies. None the less worth a watch.
