In letters of gold on a snow white kite
I will write " I love you!"
And send it soaring high above you
For all to read......

Your club is full of over rated, dehydrated, goggle eyed girls. And there trying to stare at me but there eyes are rattling and there struggling to see

Courteeners

You were the first girl at school to get breasts
Martin said that yours were the best
The boys all loved you but I was a mess
I had to watch them try to get you undressed
We were friends that was as far as it went
I used to walk you home sometimes but it meant
Oh, it meant nothing to ya
'Cos you were so popular
Oh Deborah, do you recall...

Pulp - Disco 2000

Best. 90s. Song. Ever.

Cliff Richard we're going to nail you up to a cross tonight.

Not strictly from a song per se but definitely a candidate for the greatest opening of an album.

Some girls wonder, by mistake, into the mess that scalpels make, are you the teachers of my heart? we teach old hearts to break (Leonard Cohen)

Nothing ever burns down by itself, every fire needs a little bit of help. (Chumbawumba)

This is the hate socialist collective, all mental health corrected (Luke Haines)

and of course, Karen Carpenter, Queen of goth

Long ago and oh so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you're not really here
It's just the radio

Take me back
Loneliness is a such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again

What to say to make you come again
Come back to me again
And play your sad guitar

I was quite impressed until I hit the floor
Isn't that what friends are for?
Pain looks great on other people
That's what they're for

Cohen's first two albums....essential.

And I heard of the saint who had loved you
Yeah, I studied all night in his school
He taught that the duty of lovers is to tarnish the Golden Rule
And just when I was sure that his teachings were pure
He went and drowned himself in the pool
His body is gone, yeah, but back here on the lawn
His spirit continues to drool

Hoof Hearted 10 Feb 15 9.23am

Once upon a time I had light in my life
Now there's only love in the dark

&

Once upon a time I was falling in love
Now I'm only falling apart

Nothing I can do.... total eclipse of the heart.
