This copper sounds like a classic bully who was on the receiving end of a bit of comeuppance.

That's how I see it... I know I've been a dick in the past, and when I got my comeuppance you accept it, learn from it and move on.

If I was playing against someone who had done a bad deed to me and I felt that strongly about it, I'd have a desire to put one on them. So fair play - the Ref was there to protect both teams players and he should take the blame if he failed to do so!
