Tokenism ???

[Link]

Makes me laugh that BME woman are under represented in Parliament so you have quota long / shortlists exclusively for them, yes they are possibly under represented, but so are huge swathes of the countries demographic regardless of gender, sexual orientation, religion, colour, race, nationality, class, education, preference in Pot Noodle flavours, pet owners

The best way to counter perceived prejudice and exclusion is to errmm prejudice and exclude...ludicrous

In fact the only group seemingly overly represented is white, male, upper middle to upper class, major public school educated sexual deviants over 55....

Reminds me of that joke where the girl says; "Hi, they call me Carmen cos I like cars and men"

And the bloke says; “Hi, I'm Charlie Beer-Fanny”.

They had an all woman shortlist to stand against Galloway in Bradford. They chose a British-Somali from Tower Hamlets, who after being selected has said she can't do it.

[Link]

Why not start the shortlist with people who can do the job, and live in the area.

Or just select them at random from the public, similar to jury service.

Is a far, far, far to sensible, logical and a good idea but you cant somehow then shoehorn a 23 year old half Gambian, half Welsh woman born in Algeria with a slight wheat allergy who lives in Hoxton with a penchant for World Music and eating pile ointment into the role then can you ?

You could, in Hoxton! But they're all too trendy to vote, and they abolished the seat in 1918.

She may live in Hoxton but she's been selected to fight Clackmananshire

There aren't enough people in parliament with hipster beards for me, who represents them eh - why aren't Labour having all beard selection lists ?? Its no more ludicrous a selection model than picking from the smartest 'black' female cookie..

All beard shortlist, all ginger, all bald, all left handed. Where's the positive discrimination for them?

I hope she f***s them right up.

Also hipsters aren't people, so they don't get to vote, other than whether they get the gas or the rope.
