The plus will be it will be dependent on proportional representation in future to get fist past the post off our backs. The drawback - for those of us that like the UK will - be a further move to the end of the uk. The irony will be that Thatcher saved UK ownership of the Falkland Islands (though she didn't defend it well in the first place) but set in place the neo-liberal policies that ended the UK. I wonder how history will judge things in terms of which would be better to preserve?

Current prediction: Conservatives: 276 Labour won 258 seats at the last election.With their decimation in Scotland to the SNP I really cannot see them increasing their seat tally. I think that the Conservatives will do better than predicted in the current polls.

Much depends on whether there is a good "kingmaker" in the civil service. Last time, it was all worked out beforehand because there were fewer options. This time it could give the mandarins a headache but it needs to be sorted just as quickly to protect our fiscal interests.

If it's only the Greens and the SNP (and a few TUSC types) who are left wing, would that not mean that 80% of the country have been voting for right-wing parties for decades? If so, wouldn't a democrat like yourself be in favour of a right-wing government?

Nothing has changed my view over the last few weeks. Tories will be the largest single party but without a majority. The Lib Dems won't have enough numbers to prop them up. So either a minority Tory administration (but without sufficient even supply support to get policies through) or a minority Labour administration (with support from the SNP and Lib Dems). Not an ideal situation to be in honestly. The insecurity will be damaging to long term planning.
