Surely people in England with any inclination to vote Labour will now swerve them in the fear they will vote the Scots into Westminster? It will Strengthen the Conservative core in England and more will vote Tory as it is the lesser of all evils

Nothing has changed my view over the last few weeks. Tories will be the largest single party but without a majority. The Lib Dems won't have enough numbers to prop them up. So either a minority Tory administration (but without sufficient even supply support to get policies through) or a minority Labour administration (with support from the SNP and Lib Dems). Not an ideal situation to be in honestly. The insecurity will be damaging to long term planning. You must be joking. There has been no 'long term planning' by a british government in over 50 years. Not a sausage.

If the Tories do attempt to form a minority government it may last longer than people think. Labour under Callaghan operated quite successfully and got their programme through. It all depends on whether the opposition gang together to vote against the Queen's Speech. This could put Ed on the spot because if he goes into the no lobby with SNP he may win the vote but being in government propped up by SNP could finish Labour. I dont think they will do it. I think they will let the Tories go on until they think they can do better and then force a no confidence vote. I think as well that the Tories will try and provoke Labour into voting against the Queens Speech by putting something in there that they cant ignore - such as a restriction on Unions. Whatever, it will be a lose lose situation for Labour.

It will Strengthen the Conservative core in England and more will vote Tory as it is the lesser of all evils To most it's still a 2 party system in that Labour are the only viable opponent to the Tories or vice versa and I actually think that's more pertinent this time round with less talk of wasted or tactical votes and people confused by all the coalition options, so you're hopefully right. The Facebook generation, more specifically those who seem to dispair about the evils of society, are very anti-Tory and will have to vote Labour. I have an acquaintance who engages in the opposite of marketing, i.e. promoting negative press on the competition. He attended a Labour conference discussing social media presence and claims to be able to influence an election this way. Of course this isn't a new angle, it's the entire basis of politics, but all those years on from 'New Labour, new danger', you've got the Tories making their own negative press with austerity cuts and the bedroom tax and a million lefty bloggers happy to bang out about it. All the Tories have is Boris on Facebook.

Labour's biggest handicap is Ed Millibland. If it was David Milliband or a real credible candidate you could envisage as PM they would piss this election, and, more importantly wouldn't need help from the SNP either, thus more people in England would vote Labour. If Labour don't get in this time at least Ed will step down and they can elect a proper leader that the public will vote for like Chuka Umunna.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |
