Firstly, sorry for the other threads started regarding this issue; that is a tad annoying. Anyway... It is great to see so many replies, and it is extremely interesting reading through your opinions with one another. There is a lot of talk this morning about the SNP gaining a large proportion of votes; they are the last people i want in Westminster. It does appear i am swinging to a Tory vote, although i am still hesitant about this! I have read through the different links people have put up; i suppose it leads me to propse this question to the HOL'ers; Who do you think will win the election and why? Fortunately or unfortunately you have no say in the matter. You aren't a Scottish voter (I presume) and so have no impact in the consitutencies that can actually vote for SNP candidates. And they will win seats in some of those constituencies and so they will enter Westminster. And will have every right to do so. If you mean you don't want them in government, then you have slightly more say, but still pretty much nil. Unless you're in one of the key swing consitutencies in the UK then your vote will have no impact on the outcome of the election. And that is the FPP system of democracy that we have in this country. No one will win the next general election. I think the biggest single party will be the Tories, but in all likelihood the Lib Dems won't have enough seats to get them to another coalition government. Which means it will either be a minority administration or Labour and the SNP and the Lib Dems and the Greens may be able to form a slightly 'grander' coalition if the electoral maths works.
WHO in their right mind would like red ED in number 10 either on a majority or in a coalition.....Either way he would wreck the country like boy Blair did!!! Gos forbid if he ever gets in.....
I too dislike the idea of the SNP getting anywhere near being in our government that is why it is imperative that we have an outright win by the conservatives which is my preferred alternative.
UKIP have gone AWOL i think and this is a three horse race; 2 if you consider the options. Torie led government. Labour/SNP The latter sounds somewhat disturbing.
I think we will all be shocked at the results when they come in at the election and probably find that all the speculation on Labour and SNP seats will be wrong. The Libs will get a pasting and so will UKIP I think as they have been going down in the polls a bit....Perhaps people have woken up to the fact that a UKIP vote is a wasted vote? Every vote is a wasted vote...

Morning All, I am a first time voter, Never 'Studied' politics in an educational term but always watch Question time and listen to LBC I am really struggling to relate to any party at the moment; What is it you look for in a party? What swings you to vote for X / Y. There is a split within my family of Tories and UKIP and both have been pushed onto me but i do not wish to be swayed to vote in lieu of my parents / grandparents / uncle / aunts voting opinions. Its a big deal to me, as when i watched the 2010 elections i felt betrayed as the Lib dems turned their back on the younger generation by for what i see, plain balls***, via increasing their student fee's. I almost feel an instant dislike for the party and feel i will never vote for them. As for all the others, man i just do not know where to look, what to read, and how to make my decision. Sorry if this is boring and stuff but i am just seeking some help / advice! thanks in advance!
You're £100 in debt and you wont get you're next payslip for a couple of months; do you: A) Cut back on the things you spend on until the money comes in B) Continue spending at the same rate increasing your debt so that by the time you get paid it may be all but gone C) Start saving, but refuse to let the immigrant postie from delivering your payslip so you never get the money D) Sit in the garden and look at the trees...hugging one every now and then E) Do nothing and sniff womens underwear? There...I think that about covers all your meaningful options!

The more I look at politics, the more I totally despair and find it puzzling how otherwise intelligent, rational people can put their faith in any political party to meaningfully achieve anything in our society. I mean, people actually believe the Tories are 'fixing' the economy!? Why? How? How do you even begin to 'fix' an economy which is in trillions of pounds of debt? Labour are probably worse in that they suck so many on the liberal left in to believing they will achieve anything positive. This whole 'vote Labour to keep the Tories out' nonsense is really just a complicit act of consent in Labour's move to the right, and further legitimises the f*cking shambolic policies they propose. UKIP are an absolute shambles who have ingeniously managed to kid people in to believing they are some kind of upstart alternative in a kind of post-ironic way. Farage standing up and talking about 'the people's army' is almost beyond ridicule. The Greens are the latest in a long line of reformists who think they can achieve genuine radical change through governmental politics. But you only have to look at their European track record, or the track record of the Labour party through the 20th century, or whatever other offshoots of them, to see that it's never gonna happen. And the Lib Dems are also w@nkers. So mate, as a first time voter all I can suggest to you is to go in to the polling booth, get a big black felt tip out and write NONE OF THE ABOVE, or something similar. Democracy isn't the act of posting a vote once every 5 years; it's a system we participate in every moment of our lives, from workplace issues to arguing down the pub to taking to the streets. Accept that you won't change anything through Westminster and you'll realise how affecting change is best done. By voting, you tacitly condone those pricks' position of authority.
