I see no-one I want to vote for. Should I not vote, spoil the paper or draw lots? Advice please.

Yes, I am an agent of Satan but my duties are largely ceremonial

You should vote for the party that ticks most boxes for you.

This election is a bit different as the electorate will approach it with the knowledge that a coalition is actually a strong possibility. Therefore you have to think about who will throw in their hat with who.

My concern is that we end up with SNP / UKIP numpties with a disproportionate amount of influence.

Will certainly be interesting

the dignified don't even enter in the game

Consider your worse case outcome - and vote accordingly.
For me it would be a government at the mercy of the SNP - so I will vote/hope for a centre/right coalition. This might have to include the few UKIP & DUP MP's as well as the Lib/Dems (who contrary to the view of many will still be the 4th biggest party - after the SNP.)

Breakdown of MPs in three main parties in 2010 :

Conservative 306, Labour 258, Lib Dem 57

In Scotland : Labour 41, Lib Dem 11, SNP 6 Conservative 1

Number of MPs to gain an overall majority in Parliament is 326.

With the collapse of the Lib Dem vote and of Labour in Scotland can the Conservatives not get an extra 20 seats to form an overall majority ????

Ask yourself "What is the most important thing affecting my life?" It could be NHS, Education, Transport,Security, Housing. The list goes on. One thing does not change and that is all these things have to be paid for. Therefore the overriding factor is the state of the Economy. Can we afford the improvements that all these Departments and the public in general are clamouring for?
The next question is " Which party is best equipped and has the track record to advance the Economy?"
Get your head around that and vote accordingly.

I live in a Tory heartland - never been anything else and unlikely ever to be anything other. Our MP is shiite ...no really, she is! You can always vote for the individual irrespective of their party if they are any good but it doesn't apply here.

I'll be voting for her nearest rival who is well down the pecking order in the likely number of votes to be cast. Probably a U-Kipper this time. It won't affect the local result nor be representative of my political views but in my opinion it's the only way my vote could be usefully cast.

That's our system - 40% vote for her - 60% don't and she romps home by a big majority.
They used to rubbish PR because it would lead to a coalition government. Now we seem to have that - and still poor representation!
