I would suggest that if it's likely that sufficient people will donate to CURE from this point in that a separate "scheme" be started but this time tied in with Gift Aid which will add a further 20% to all donations received

Adera's Fund Update: we have increased our target to £700. This will cover 3 assessments and 3 operations by CURE for the three children with hydrocephalus. It will also pay for transport and other costs involved in travelling across the country to CURE's hospital. We realise this is a tall order, but we are hopeful to be able to reach this new target with the help of our friends and family across our social networks. Please donate and share. Thank you [Link]

UPDATE: Adera and the two other children with hydrocephalus have been assessed by CURE and two of them need surgery. They can go to CURE's hospital on April 13th for this life-saving treatment, but we are £100 short of the amount we need to pay for the surgery. PLEASE consider donating, even if you have already, to allow us to make up the shortfall and allow these children to have the treatment they need to save their lives and give them a future. Any contribution, large or small, will make a huge difference. THANK YOU!

My daughter was a leukemia sufferer and is only alive today thanks to the miracle of modern medicine and a vast amount of money spent on her by the NHS and it's so sad to see how children's lives in poorer countries can be so blighted for the lack of just a few quid. The revises target has now been met so let's hope that we can bringer a better quality of life to three children who had the misfortune to have been born in the wrong country

Thanks so much to those who donated again - you know who you are! We've reached the new target which is amazing and means the two children can have their surgery. This is truly life-changing and a fantastic achievement. Thank you so much. We have updated the target by a small amount more, to cover a few other overheads like transport, but the aim of my previous post has been met and the pressure is off. Thanks again HOLers, you made the difference with this and I will post updates as to how the children are once they've had their operations. Cheers guys. You're the best

Update for those who contributed to Adera's Fund: Today Adera and Dapine, the two children who were recommended for surgery and for whom we raised the money for treatment, travelled to the CURE hospital in Mbale, Eastern Uganda. This is a long and arduous journey which holds both hope and anxiety for the children and their families. Hope for a cure and understandable anxiety when a loved one is to undergo complex neurosurgery. I will be receiving updates from Alex, my friend and colleague who is co-ordinating this effort in Uganda, and I will of course share these with you when I receive them. Many thanks once again to the people whose donations enabled this treatment to happen. Whatever the outcome of the surgery, you have helped give these children hope for the future, and the possibility of a vastly improved life ahead.

UPDATE: Since the children travelled to the CURE hospital at Mbale on Monday, we have had some disappointing news. Unfortunately Adera was assessed as not suitable for surgery due to her age. She has been given some medication and advised to have physiotherapy. The other child, Daphine, became ill on the long journey and was therefore also not able to have her operation. CURE said they may be able to send a surgeon to Mbarara, closer to the children's home district, in order to carry out the surgery in the near future, when she is well enough. We are disappointed that neither child was able to have the treatment which we all hoped for, but we have to accept the guidance of CURE's specialists and hope for a better outcome in future. Please don't think your efforts have been wasted - the money we raised will still go towards treating the children affected by hydrocephalus. Although surgery is not always possible, other treatments are available and your donations will go towards paying for these. Further updates will follow as and when we have any more news. Thanks again for your invaluable support.

I wanted to let the people who contributed to this fund know that on Wednesday this week, Daphine and Johnson, two children with hydrocephalus, will be meeting with CURE to see if they can have their surgery. If they do, it will be the money you donated which will pay for their operations. I will update you again once we have news from CURE. Thank you very much to those who contributed to this cause.
