????????? how do you work that out Mr. assumption ? First off that article is 5 years old, secondly no where in the article does it break down the statistics by ethnicity. I would say the fact that it (Manchester) is as culturally diverse as London and Birmingham goes some way to giving credence to my point. I was using somewhere I lived that predominantly white working class, that didn�t have any Knife crime, (Droylsdon) compared to say Longsight that had a much more culturally diverse make up, that was rife with it, and guns! how do you work that out Mr. assumption ?

First off that article is 5 years old, secondly no where in the article does it break down the statistics by ethnicity.

I would say the fact that it (Manchester) is as culturally diverse as London and Birmingham goes some way to giving credence to my point. I was using somewhere I lived that predominantly white working class, that didn�t have any Knife crime, (Droylsdon) compared to say Longsight that had a much more culturally diverse make up, that was rife with it, and guns!

Its quite important to remember that low rates of knife crime in areas of Nottingham, London and Manchester may be more down to the prevalence of gun crime among gangs. The increasing popularity of knives among London gangs has generally stemmed from successes in Operation Trident making guns harder to obtain. There isn't a real 'link' between ethnicity and knife crime. Its more of a correlation. "One Nation Under God, has turned into One Nation Under the Influence of One Drug" [Link]

Its quite important to remember that low rates of knife crime in areas of Nottingham, London and Manchester may be more down to the prevalence of gun crime among gangs. The increasing popularity of knives among London gangs has generally stemmed from successes in Operation Trident making guns harder to obtain.

There isn't a real 'link' between ethnicity and knife crime. Its more of a correlation.

I remember watching 24hours in A&E, and a African doctor did a plea to the young black people of London to stop carrying knives. He was sick of seeing young black lads being stabbed. I almost think it is racist not to discuss it. Things in life change... years ago it was skinheads, then mods... now it's young black lads, who knows... in 20 years time it might be Turks/Poles/Indians, but for now it is young black guys, so lets not be too scared to discuss it, and leave it to the far right to push their agenda. The problem though doesn't stem from them being black which is where the issue of calling it a black problem crosses over into racism. When it wasn't young black youths, it wasn't a white problem, it was a problem identified with specific white youth cultures. Maybe we could try to understand better those cultures that black youth attach to, rather than just lump the whole thing on a problem associated with all young black men (which implies its genetic or ethnic). Glasgow and Belfast are in the UK are they not? Include those two danny and the numbers will bear it out.

What we can agree on is that in London knife crime is greatly and disproportionately committed by those with a darker hue. But that doesn't mean jack to Jocky McHugh and his 45 stitches last Saturday night and the many others in A and E waiting rooms oop north.
