Am considering options for moving away from London at the moment. I am well paid but have a young family and have been wondering whether I would be better off elsewhere. My parents and sister live in Edinburgh. I work in Financial Services so there is a strong job market there for comparable roles and am quite motivated by the perceived improvement in quality of life, both for me and for my daughters. Anyone done something similar? Regretted it or happy and never looked back? Only paid for my next year's season ticket a few weeks ago so I'll still have to come down regularly anyway "It's almost like a moral decision. Quite the mini-Palace population in this fine city. it took some getting used to, but with easy access to the surrounding countryside and the West it offers everything. The schools are rubbish... unless you buy in the Redland/Westbury Park area where they are generally of high standard [because of middle class parents]. Commerce is strong, culture is cool with a big student population and the vibe is good. The Sunday Times reckons this is the place to be. Also, to London in only 1.45 minutes by train [to be reduced in a few years with high speed], 2 1/2 hours by cheap bus or pretty speedy by car. Join the gang. PS Edinburgh is gorgeous. My mum lives there. It has everything save good weather.

Quite the mini-Palace population in this fine city. it took some getting used to, but with easy access to the surrounding countryside and the West it offers everything.

The schools are rubbish... unless you buy in the Redland/Westbury Park area where they are generally of high standard [because of middle class parents].

Commerce is strong, culture is cool with a big student population and the vibe is good. The Sunday Times reckons this is the place to be.

Also, to London in only 1.45 minutes by train [to be reduced in a few years with high speed], 2 1/2 hours by cheap bus or pretty speedy by car.

Join the gang.

PS Edinburgh is gorgeous. My mum lives there. It has everything save good weather.

I have only ever lived in London so cant comment on whats best, but from friends that have lived here and moved out some that I know would love to move back but cant afford too.

It does rain a lot more. And is bloody cold. I lived there for 5 years as a kid and don't remember it getting me down. Plus at least you got proper snow there rather than the slushy dirty $hit you get in winter in London. But it is a factor. It does rain a lot more. And is bloody cold.

I lived there for 5 years as a kid and don't remember it getting me down. Plus at least you got proper snow there rather than the slushy dirty $hit you get in winter in London. But it is a factor.

The missus is from Swansea but can't see any way on earth I would consider moving there.

Mrs Moose is Scottish and many was the time, when we got married and Moose Jr was a baby, that we discussed the move north. It's very tempting to think of selling the house, having a nil mortgage on a bigger place with a nice car in the drive and a less stressful lifestyle. However, our life is down here and so are our friends, there's job security here for both of us and now Moose Jr is older he's in a good school. There's family, there's support, there's loads to do and there's Palace. We've stayed and haven't regretted it one bit. Not to say that we wouldn't move outwards later when the boy's flown the nest but, frankly, the grass always seems greener without it being so. We moved to Perth (the one in Australia and not Scotland) four years ago and only came back to the UK two months back. Not back to London, but to Birmingham where we had a house. The move has showed us clearly what we already knew, that whilst we were a long way from family, the quality of everyday life is just so much better. Not even truly weather related, although that certainly helps, but, the fact is that we would not have felt this way unless we had been and come back. So, we are now making plans to get our son settled in Uni and head back to Perth permanently in early 2016. The key message is that you need to try it or you might always live to regret it. You can always return Most certainly not European.

I find that living in London you have to scrap for everything, its bloody hard work and tiring. One thing about this city of ours it certainly keeps you on your toes, some people miss the fight, some don't Good luck fella .

Edinburgh is a fine place to live, I had a flat on Portobello road close to the beach so had the best of both Worlds, I would recommend renting outside the city center ie Portobello or anywhere along the coast just incase you hate it and wish to head home. Edinburgh is a fine place to live, I had a flat on Portobello road close to the beach so had the best of both Worlds, I would recommend renting outside the city center ie Portobello or anywhere along the coast just incase you hate it and wish to head home.

Obviously, we chose the latter and zero regrets but can't deny how great London is and how much I always look forward to visiting. And leaving to get away from the madness too All about the ties and how strong they are. If still powerful my advice would be to move no more than an hour by train away so you can still get the London fix as and when. Big chest and massive boobs [Link]

Obviously, we chose the latter and zero regrets but can't deny how great London is and how much I always look forward to visiting. And leaving to get away from the madness too

All about the ties and how strong they are. If still powerful my advice would be to move no more than an hour by train away so you can still get the London fix as and when.
